Day Forty-Seven

Mark 7:31-36

Up to this point we have studied many activities of Jesus. From each of the Gospels. I learned today, that this particular story is only covered by one reporter. That reporter was Mark. It made an impression. I don’t know if he walked over close enough to hear and see what Jesus did as the man experienced his healing…obviously he must have for so many details to be included.

Let’s back up. If you look back at the previous verses—you get the feeling that Jesus was tired. I mean, He had just tried to escape for just a short reprieve inside a house …in hopes of not being seen. If you go back further, you will see He has every right to be completely exhausted! But there was no rest for Him. No escape from the hungry, hurting people of the day. It’s like that now as well.

Having been close to several ministerial families I have seen first hand the everyday joys as wells as the stress the call of God takes on a family. If a minister has what I believe is a true pastor/shepherd’s heart, he is constantly busy with the “flock” and he is constantly in demand.

And, generally, he tries to meet the needs of his congregation as best he can—with the willing heart of a servant of God. But this doesn’t mean that he never grows tired. On the contrary. I believe they are more tired than we can imagine. (I think it might be like being a mother to about 200+ children….) Okay, so now I am really exhausted…and not because it is FRIDAY and the week was EXTREMELY long and had splashes of difficulty . . .(and I am not a preacher! Whew! AND their busy time is about to crank up!)

Living in a glass house, being observed, not only by your congregation, but by the very community in which you live is enough to make the normal person want to pull their hair out! (I think it would mine!) Wait a minute. Did I just imply that preachers/ministers/pastors aren’t normal? Well, they are. They eat, drink, sleep and grow weary in well doing just like the rest of us….and by the way. In case we forget…the commission to go into all the world…was for all who believe and follow the Lord Jesus Christ! At least that is what I believe. Correct me please if I am mistaken. If I’m wrong…then I guess I can just shut down the blog and all the other hearts striving to live the life before the world telling others about Jesus can just push pause and let the preacher’s carry on…. whatcha think? Me either. We have a job to do…and not much time to get it done. Carry on girls. (This was a minor pit stop in the study…sorry I strayed. Let’s get back to business.)

Jesus was living and ministering in a glass house as well. FOLLOWED closely. NO ALONE TIME—or at least it was VERY hard to come by.

So we find Him traveling once again…and the word has spread and He is met by friends of a man who is deaf and could hardly speak. They obviously loved this man very much, for the Bible says that they begged Jesus to heal him. And of course as you read the story you find that Jesus does heal him. In a rather unusual way, that was not typical of his other healing works.

When I read the first of verse 34, “He looked up to heaven and with a deep sigh….” I pondered His sigh. My first thought was, bless His heart, He can’t go anywhere without being bombarded to do for others. But—that was my flesh thinking. Helping others is what Jesus was all about. Helping them from themselves. From the self destruction of sin.

I read the commentary notes below and realized what His deep sigh was all about. He knew already what lay in store for this man. And with the tongue being the most unruly member of each of us….what difficulties this man may now face that he might not before….food for thought. You read it and tell me what you think.

¹He sighed; not as if he found any difficulty in working this miracle, or obtaining power to do it from his father; but thus he expressed his pity for the miseries of human life, and his sympathy with the afflicted in their afflictions, as one that was himself touched with the feeling of their infirmities. And as to this man, he sighed, not because he was loath to do him this kindness, or did it with reluctance; but because of the many temptations which he would be exposed to, and the sins he would be in danger of, the tongue-sins, after the restoring of his speech to him, which before he was free from. He had better be tongue-tied still, unless he have grace to keep his mouth as with a bridle, Ps. 39:1.

More food for thought…and you can tell me what you think here too…but I wonder if in praying certain prayers…if God’s not healing us or removing the burden, or cutting back our cross a bit (see Aimee’s post from Day Forty-Four—we added a GodTube clip you really need to see!), I just wonder…are we trying to take matters into our own hands…and maybe, just maybe the burden is for a purpose? A BIGGER reason. A BIGGER working in our lives ….or maybe it’s for someone else? I don’t know…I am just thinking out loud. Sort of. Honestly, I really wish I could have all the problems fixed…but I told my oldest daughter a few weeks ago, the trials she is in is for a reason…God is TRYING to work out some of the things she is clinging to that is not OF HIM. Now, I am not saying it’s the case every time. Not at all. I am just ramblin’ on. Sorry. Too much caffeine.

I know from this week alone, how VALUABLE time alone with Christ is. More than anything else, we need to give time to God each day. When I drive to work everyday over 40 miles one way, that gives me many miles of time with Him. We have the BEST time! I talk to the LORD about the day to day…and He listens. There are times though, I catch myself becoming encumbered in my mind with the details of whatever the current problem may be….and I have to snatch my mind back to HIM. I am so glad He goes with me wherever I go.

Girls, I encourage you to take some time this weekend and just BE with the Lord. Allow Him to talk to your hearts and minds—He will lift the burdens from our shoulders…if we let Him.

Heavenly Father, I bring these sisters that are with us today, before Your throne of grace, and ask that You would look on them with Your favor. Your word says that You give strength to the weary, so I ask that You would strengthen each heart and life. Bless them Lord with Your presence, and encourage them. Remind them of Your faithfulness and Your love that they might stand in faith against whatever they may be facing today. Lord You alone know our tomorrows. You know how to prepare us for that day. We give You each of our days. Take them and create what will bring glory and honor to You. In the name of Jesus we pray~Amen.

Keeping the Faith,

Angie

Day Forty-Six

I just have to say this silly comment to get a smile from you this morning:
“Are we frogging or blogging?” Ya’ get it ??? (I know that was corny, but sometimes I say something corny to make people laugh- it’s good for you!) One day, I’ll share with ya’ll ’bout my frog story. It’s a hoot! I better get down to business though on today’s devotion.

Today’s scripture reference: Colossians 2:1-7

Good morning sisters! It is so good to have you over today. Grab a chair and a cup of Chia Latte Tea. Let’s sit down at the table and talk a little bit. Beth is sharing some very interesting thoughts. Look back at verse 3. Beth brought to our attention that “What Paul is saying is that God is the fullness of all security and mystery. He meets all our emotional needs as well as all our mental needs.” I like that explanation! (Please excuse how I look today, but I’m holding on….. by faith.)

It astounds me, how God can meet our every need if we stay in tune with Him. You know He cares about the details of our life. I remember when my husband had an automobile accident in 1996, he had to have surgery on his broken leg. We had not been pastoring the church here very long, but he was laid-up for a while. While he was still in the hospital, I came home one day to bring him some fresh p.j.’s and going home clothes. I remember looking through his closet and thinking “I know he’ll have many visitors when we get home and he don’t even own a housecoat.” Not that- that was such a big deal, but we didn’t have the money to go buy one. I gathered him a pair of jogging pants and a t-shirt and my clothes and headed back to the hospital. When I got back to the hospital, he had lots of visitors. I’ll never forget this special visitor that came. A soft spoken lady from our Church with such gentle ways, always a beautiful smile, and a deep hearty laugh, came in carrying a beautifully wrapped box. She handed it to my husband and to my amazement was a gorgeous, plush, navy-blue bathrobe! I know she probably thought I was crazy as I teared-up over a robe, I looked at my husband and said, “just what you needed, thank you, Lord!” I had not told anyone, and I didn’t even say the thought aloud while I was standing in our closet at home, but God knew! You may think this is so trivial or vain, but God cared- He cared about what I was concerned about. God is mysterious and we can never completely understand His ways.

We can rest in God’s love. (Would you care for more tea?) Let’s back up a minute and re-read vs. 2. Paul said, he wanted “their hearts to be encouraged and joined together in love, so that they may have all the riches of assured understanding and have the knowledge of God’s mystery-Christ.” Sisters, let your “heart be encouraged as we join together” everyday in our Bible study because truly God is giving us the “richness of more understanding and knowledge of the mystery of Christ- The One and Only.”

Now vs. 4 has a few words that went leaping off the page at me. Paul said in the NKJV, that he was rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.” I want to have “good order and steadfast faith.” (Angie, that’s why I continually feel I need to get organized! Sorry, girls I’m having a little trouble in this area of my life, too much to do and too little time.) I guess my faith is being tested, here lately, at His “service station” spot checking the “steadfast” part. Steadfast- this is immovable faith or unshakable faith. I pray my faith will stand strong in the Lord, my rock, and not the shifting sands of this world.

Beth’s last statement was so powerful and true, where she wrote: “No matter how often we seek Him, we will always be stunned by His greatness.” I’ll close now with a prayer because my legs are so tired from hopping around so much on this blog today.

Dear Lord, help us to walk in you, staying rooted and built up in you. Please establish us in the faith, just as we have been taught, always abounding in it with thankful hearts. Colossians 2:7.

Keep smiling and growing in Christ. Love all of you Sisters of Faith!

Aimee

Day Forty-Five (Our Half-Way Mark)

Scripture references Luke 9:28-36

About eight days (Brothers Matthew and Mark both say 6 days…but I agree with the commentary I read that the good Dr. Luke’s recordings were most likely the more accurate), have passed since yesterday’s conversation.

Beth asked the question, “Why would Jesus choose a mountain as the ideal spot for Him to reveal His glory to His closest friends?”

It made me think. About my own mountains. Have you ever been climbing? Well, I haven’t climbed any huge rocks…but I have trekked with Jeff, up a mountain to reach the top of a water fall. The journey was tricky. I even lost my footing a time or two. I was hit with branches, worried about poisonous plants, even envisioned some snakes crawling along. Yes, don’t forget the snakes. But when I reached the top—oh my goodness.

The air was the first thing you notice. Of course you are out of breath from the climb, but then the view takes your breath away! I cannot fathom how anyone who ventures out into creation can possibly even entertain the thought that there is no God.

Girls I can tell you from my experience in actually climbing said mountain (It was up Minnehaha Falls in Rabon County Georgia, that God’s beauty is all around–in the tiniest detail of the plenteous Rhododendron and Mountain Laurel, to the spiders making their way along the most fragile spun web, it’s all God.

This is a picture of the very falls we climbed. Now–I was MUCH younger when I trekked the whole way, and it was not easy even then. The way was very slippery. We were in and out of the water. But the view from the top was, as Beth said of the journey for Peter, James and John, “worth the climb.”

His glory can be viewed with our window thrown wide, or even in the tiniest peep hole. But if we choose to look only through a peep hole existence, we must realize that we are only allowing ourselves a peephole experience with God.

And girls, there is so much more!

He is so much bigger than that!

When I was studying this today, I use Matthew Henry’s Commentary a great deal in my reading, and this is something I found very interesting….

¹“Lastly, The apostles are here said to have kept this vision private. They told no man in those days, reserving the discovery of it for another opportunity, when the evidences of Christ’s being the Son of God were completed in the pouring out of the Spirit, and that doctrine was to be published to all the world. As there is a time to speak, so there is a time to keep silence. Every thing is beautiful and useful in its season”.

Sometimes the LORD gives you a nugget of truth for your life. One for a day to come. Perhaps the near future, maybe further off a bit. But sometimes, like Mary, the mother of Jesus, we need to “ponder these things” in our hearts a bit. At the right time, He will pave the way for us to share them. That is sort of how I’ve been with many details around the time of Wanda’s home going. Even still. I know that there will be a day and time when I will share much of my experience of her exit from this life into the next. Until that day…I hold them dear and near my heart. And in the meantime, I thank you my faithful friend for sticking by us and praying for us.

I loved Beth’s prayer today and am sharing it—I have ENJOYED this so much! I am feeling the growth in my own life and heart. I hope you are as well. I know that our conversations have been deeper. And, I am listening more.

“O Lord my God, You are very great, clothed with majesty and splendor. You wrap Yourself in light as if it were a robe, spreading out the sky like a canopy, laying the beams of Your palace on the waters above, making the clouds Your chariot, walking on the wings of the wind, and making the wind Your messengers, flames of fire Your servants” (Ps. 104:1-4), do in each of our hearts as You would. Teach us Your ways, shine the light on the path we are to take. Help us to grasp a firm grip on Your hand as You lead us in the paths of righteousness. Up the hill, to view the magnificent creation You have blessed us with! I am clinging tight. I know You won’t let go. Guard the lives of each of our dear sisters that are journeying with us. Bless their homes and hearts. Help them to see the miracles in the meeting of their everyday needs. In the mighty and holy name of Jesus—praying, believing–EXPECTING—~Amen.

Keeping the Faith,

Angie

Day Forty-Four

Scripture Text: Luke 9:23-27

Peter and I seem to have some things in common. Sometimes the Lord has to tell me two or three times until I finally get it. Beth reminds us that Peter was invited to follow Christ “three times before Christ ascended to the right hand of the Father.” The scripture verses in today devotion clearly expressed how to follow Him.

Taking up a cross daily does not necessarily have to be bad. I heard it said once that “if you pick a calf up everyday until its grown, you can pick him up when he’s a grown cow.” (I guess you build some muscles. Ha!Ha!) What about this in a spiritual sense? If we take up our cross daily- – if we don’t just get lazy (ouch) and pick it up only when we need Him. If someone gave you a brand new car and you didn’t maintain it, keep it clean and running good, it would eventually stop running. Jesus paid the price for an eternal gift to us, but we do have to maintain our walk with Him once we accept His precious gift.

What does it mean to take up a cross? I believe it is different for everyone. Maybe your cross is your wayward child, maybe your cross is a dependent family member, maybe your cross is your lost spouse, maybe your cross is a stressful job, maybe your cross is the bad habit in your life that you set healthy boundaries so you won’t go back to it, or maybe your cross is simply loving someone that does not care about you or has hurt you. Whatever your cross is, go ahead and pick it up and march on. He will “make your burdens light.” We must keep following Him! He is leading us to “the Promised Land.” I am longing to go there more than ever, but I must do more for Him, that’s why I am still here.

I like what Beth said , “the key to true ‘follow-ship’ with Christ is the recommitment to take up the cross daily.” She also stated, “live life one surrendered day at a time.” – one step at a time. Salvation is not a one-time commitment, it’s a daily walk. Crosses are supposed to be comfortable, but “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Philippians 4:13. I like this one, too: “Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, unto all patience and longsuffering with joyfulness;” Colossians 1:11. Have a great day friends. Keep carrying your cross and one day you’ll “Trade the Old Cross for a Crown.

Day Forty-Three

Scripture: Matthew 16:13-23

What did you think of the weekend studies…did you finish Saturday and Sunday? Remember everyone is on their own. No guilt trips here if you were not able to get to them. Usually, I tie Saturday and Sunday into one sit down session for myself. Usually Saturday is SWAMPED….anyone else? But I have to tell you…the devotion from both days…caused tears to spring to my eyes. The miracle of the fish and loaves…well, I won’t say more…but my highlighter got a work out!

Now on to today. We are almost at our half-way point. Can you believe it? Do you feel Him? In your everyday life? Whispering in your heart? I have.

After you read the passage for today, I am going to head straight to something powerful that really hit home with me, “2) All Satan needs to have momentary victory over a disciple is for us to have in mind the things of men. Satan doesn’t have to get us blatantly thinking satanic thoughts to have victory over us. All he needs is to get us looking at life from man’s perspective rather than God’s.”

…and then I was hit with THIS….

“What Peter didn’t understand is that what may have seemed best in the short run would have been disastrous in the long run. Had Jesus saved His disciples the anxiety of His betrayal, trials, and death, He wouldn’t have saved them at all.”

Did you see that?

What did that do to your heart?

How many times have you been like me….worked the solution to whatever problem out in your head and just expected God to “see it your way”?

I cannot tell you HOW many times when troubles or anxiety have overtaken my thought processes that I have absolutely come up with something or some way to fix it…and totally left out the fact that God might have other ideas or plans….Well of COURSE He has other plans! I mean…He is God after all!

It is for us to CONFORM to His plans, NOT the other way around….why, oh why, do we waste precious time trying to solve an issue that we have prayed and asked God for the answer??

I’m trying —really I am. I know we don’t see the big picture. We don’t see what He is working out of us in the process of all the trials we are currently enduring. All we see is the current pain, instead of the blessing to come. The blessing is hidden from our view by the daily tears of frustration. We can’t build it, nor fix it to suit ourselves. If it is not God’s making…it is for naught.

So girls, let us “hold fast to the faith” that the work He is doing in our lives will one day reveal such beauty, the scars of the battle will be jewels in our crown of life that we will cast at His feet. I know I sort of got off the track of the lesson today, but these things burned in my heart even as I studied the “miracle of the fish and loaves”. What God wanted to “show the disciples”….He wants to show us as well. Let’s take a look at what He’s holding in His hands…

Father God, You just blow me away sometimes. The way You love us without hesitation. You are teaching us to do the same. To love and to follow You without hesitation. We do. Today we choose to listen and obey. We give you this day and everyday. Create in us what You desire us to be. In the holy name of Your only Son, Jesus~Amen.

Day Forty

Read Matthew 10:5-10

Jesus commissioned the twelve disciples to go–with special instructions. I especially re-read vs. 8b. “Freely ye have received, freely give.” This is a passion of mine- sharing Jesus!

Periodically, we have a class at our church called “E.E.” which stands for”Evangelism Explosion.” I took this class a couple of years ago and what a blessing I received learning how to share Jesus and sharing Him! There is a lot of scripture memorization along with an outline to learn. Our whole church would get involved when we have this class. Only a certain number can take the class itself, but many are involved. First, we have a Scout Team that locates the target areas in our community. Some get to be the prayer partners that prays for the E.E. Team and the prayer needs, along with the people visited , some are on the Visitation Team that would go out ahead to take a prayer plant to the different homes and they would take prayer request with that. (Even sinners have prayer request!) Next the E.E. team would follow up with our visit to “share the Gospel.” This is not something thrown together, there are instructions to follow. A lot of planning is involved – and wow- does miracles happen, lost saved, and people blessed!

Beth explains the meaning of the word dorean- or freely in vs. 8b, meaning “freely, gratis, as a free gift.” Jesus has given us a free gift, because He paid the price. We must share though, not keep it to our self. We do not earn it. He gives us the gift just because He loves us. Angie, recently gave me a gift and I asked what was it for and she said, “Just because.” (She’s so thoughtful!) Christ gave us a gift and says, “Just because” but He wants us to “Pay It Forward” (that was a good movie by the way, if you have not seen it, you need to rent it- it’s an older one – but a goodie)

I’m the type person when I try something new and I like it, I want everyone else I know to get it, too. If it’s a new recipe, I’ll share it. If it’s a new item from Wal-mart, I’ll show it to everyone, so they can get one, too. I pray my life will speak to others that I enjoy being a Christian and want everyone to know Him. Let me challenge you today – talk to two people about Christ. Share your testimony with them. (If you are saved, you have one.) Ask them, “May I ask you a question? Do you know for certain that if you were to die today that you would go to Heaven, or is that something you are still working on?” Share the gospel with them, if they are uncertain. Pray for them and with them. It’s our commission, “the Great Commission.”

Let’s close with Beth’s prayer today. “Lord, I know we have not received the spirit of the world but Your Spirit, in order that we may know what You have freely given us in Christ. I pray that we will also speak these things, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by Your Spirit (1 Cor.2:12-13). We desire to give freely, Lord, out of the abundance we have received.” In Jesus name- – Amen. Keep smiling sisters!

Day Thirty-Nine

Luke 9:1-6

The Calling.

Ring..Ring…
Ring…Ring…

“Hello?”

“Hey Regina, do you and Bernadine and the two sweet Denise’s think you can join Gail and the rest of My children on a field trip?”

Beth’s last word on page 189 inspired the above dialogue. “Remember the meaning of disciple: pupil, learner! We can’t keep skipping class—our time with God in the Scripture and in prayer—and expect to know when He’s scheduled a field trip!”

What if…the phone rang and God called you up and told you specifically what He needed you to accomplish for Him each day?

My thought was —“hey—that’d be just great!”….Especially considering the fact that many mornings…that is the very question I ask Him. I spend much time in conversation with the Father about my calling. “What is it You require of me Lord?” I smiled when I was reading this lesson, because just this morning….it came up again.

I have this list of things “I’m not good at”, just in case He forgot. “So, you know…don’t ask me to do that Lord….You know I’m not a speaker. Let me write all day long. Just don’t ask me to speak.”

That was something I told Him MANY times. Then I got to a place in my life, after Wanda passed away I said, “Lord, You know what I am capable of, —just as You knew what Wanda could and could not do. I know, trust and believe, You won’t require more than what You will EQUIP me to do. I give whatever ability I have or don’t have to You. Whatever I have is Yours. Use me up. Until I go Home.”

He may not require me to speak (you’ll be glad), but I had to make up my mind, that whatever, whenever, I’d never refuse my Lord.

What’s He asking you to do? A willing heart is all that He requires. Come get on the bus for the field trip….Girls, it is bound to be filled with adventure!

There’s a song with great lyrics that I will close with. I would love for the FIRST COMMENTER to say a prayer for us today—-if you don’t mind.

“If You can use anything Lord
You can use me.
If You can use anything Lord
You can use me.
Take my hands, Lord
And my feet,
Touch my heart, Lord,
And speak through me.
If You can use anything,
LordYou can use me.

Ron Kenoly is below in the video clip. An awesome song, enjoy the words…it is a powerful song. Ron Kenoly is one of my favorite worship leaders.

Okay…will one of you sweet sisters pray for us today? Or…maybe all of you will. Thank you.

Day Thirty-eight

Scripture Text: Luke 8:42b-48

Angie’s post yesterday was powerful! I loved it! I must comment. Surely, at one point in our lives, if you’re human you’ve felt desperation.

I was thinking….it’s amazing to me the different cries of a baby. Some cries may be just a complaint sound, or “I’m bored, I’m sleepy, or a fussy kind-a-cry”, but as a mom, when you hear the desperate cry, you know the difference! I believe Jesus hears the difference in our cries, and when we have the desperate cry – that’s when His strong arm lifts us up.

Beth mentioned in today’s devotion, something that spoke volumes to me. She wrote about how the woman with the “issue of blood” might have felt about her own need. Maybe she didn’t feel it was as important as others needs, but her need was “more than enough” to move the Master! Wow- that is an awesome thought. On His way to raise the dead, He stopped for this woman’s need. In the midst of our economic crisis, in the midst of foreign conflicts, in the midst of our presidential race; He hears the prayer of a mother on her knees praying for her lost child- the prayer of a man that morns the loss of his wife – the prayer of a grandmother praying for her sick grandchildren- the prayer of a couple and their financial need- and your prayer where ever you may be. He loves when we bring our needs to Him and announce, “Lord, we have done all we can, and now we lay the pieces at your feet.” His word says in Isaiah 59:1: “Behold, the Lord’s hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear.”

Recently, I heard someone speaking about the “woman with the issue of blood,” and they were talking about how she was considered unclean because of her condition. She was not wanting to defile Jesus, so maybe she thought, “If I could just touch the hem of His garment….” maybe just a thread. He knew. He felt the touch. He said in vs. 48 “…thy faith hath made thee whole….” She went home that day fixed! Cured! Healed! She reached out in faith to touch Him, and she received healing, comfort, and peace.

Let me close with this prayer: Father, you are always mindful of the things that concern us and want us to bring our cares to you. Thank you for being there through every storm. May your healing virtue flow to those that need a healing and salvation to those lost. Reach out to every sweet sister reading these posts and minister peace to them. Thank you for showing me in your word that you always take time for us. May we always take time for you. In Christ Jesus’ name I pray—Amen.

Day Thirty-Seven

Luke 8-40-42a, 49-56

Girls have you had the opportunity to pull something from your memory of some of the material we have studied so far? I did…just this morning. I was overwhelmed with joy at the fact that I REMEMBERED it! I have been praying for the “remembering ability”–to latch on to what we are learning and allow me to use it again in studies, blogging, sharing, or just plain trying to help someone else!

Let’s get on in the study. Desperation is what Beth titled it. Fitting.

As a parent who has been in a “desperate” situation with my own children before…I know the feeling.

Traveling at a high rate of speed in order to get to my youngest daughter who had been in an automobile accident that took the life of the driver at fault—I was desperate for God to enable my truck to sprout wings. My wings didn’t come…but what He did was pave the way. He cleared the highway before me of any oncoming traffic.

As amazing as it was, I look back and see the miracle in that. I was praying and crying out to God and driving about 85+ miles per hour. This mother was distraught. I wasn’t thinking about anything but my baby girl. God was there. April saw the horrified look on my face when I looked at her in the ambulance and she instantly reassured me. “Mom, I’m fine.”—bloody face, cuts, bleeding from her neck…“Mom, I’m fine, stop worrying.” God was faithful. He had her in His hands. No, He didn’t prevent it—but yes He could have. He had a reason. I just don’t know what it was—and may never…that has to be okay with me….I must live my life with my COMPLETE TRUST in HIM! God heard the desperation in my voice. He knew my heart. He answered.

Fast forward a few years and again—with extreme desperation in my voice—I called on God. Our oldest daughter is about to either give birth 2 1/2 months too early or die. And possibly both. As she lay in the hospital bed, her husband was a basket case—she looked at me with swollen eyes from crying and said–“call Grandleria”. That is our name for Mother. “Tell her to pray”. I did and she did. God heard the desperate plea in our hearts and voices. Yes, He could have prevented all of the trauma of this child birth. But He didn’t. Reason? I may never know this side of heaven. Maybe we needed some sifting in our lives. Maybe our attention was not fully focused on what it should have been. Maybe someone else needed to see Christ at work IN US. Maybe my child needed to KNOW in Whom we all believe. Maybe it was time that she got an up close and personal visit from the heavenlies. Whatever the reason—He alone knows.

Girlfriends, I don’t know what you may be facing. I know that our family has endured many hardships–from financial collapse to major sicknesses and death, to the loss of a home and even runaway teenager….but through every single hardship or trial, we have turned to our Source of strength. He has never failed. Although the trials may have lasted far longer than we thought necessary, it is sometimes very necessary to complete whatever process He may be working in our lives. And, in the scheme of things, we don’t know the “whole” of what is actually going on anyway. We only see a small portion of the picture.

Tomorrow, when Aimee talks about the “in-between” miracle—she will shed more light on this story. The fact was that while Jesus was on His way to Jairus’ house, a miracle takes place—all because of the faith of one woman….in desperation. He could have healed Jairus’ daughter without ever being present…but the happenings were all for a reason. There are times in our lives when we call on Him in desperation for a need in our lives…and there are times when we are literally crawling before Him and reaching with desperate hands for a touch of His garment.

I love Psalm 121:1, 2 “I raise my eyes toward the mountains. Where will my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”

Thank you Father, for being here….and there. Wherever we are is where You are. You wrap us in the arms of Your strength and hold us with the everlasting peace. I ask today that You will wrap up each life that is reaching out to You. All the girls that have joined with us in the study to know You more. As we learn more of You, help us to learn more about what You have for us. We live such lives that rarely do we reach out until we are in desperate need. When every single day You long for conversation and time alone with each of us. Help me Lord to take that time more. Use my time wisely. For You. So that I can KNOW YOU MORE. Help me retain what I learn. Hold it in my heart—and give it away at the same time. In Jesus precious name I pray~Amen.

Angie

90 Days with Jesus Bible Study

Day Thirty-six

Scripture Text: Luke 8:26-39

This story was always fascinating as a child- Christ casting out the demons in the man from the Gadarenes. What a mighty God we serve! Jesus cast them out and they went into the swine and the swine jumped off the cliff. While I read this devotion I was thinking of the same song we talked about in the beginning of our study called “The Beauty of His Name.” The second verse is: “At the sound of His name every demon has to flee for to that name all power is given to set the hopeless captive free. Every disease and sickness must bow down to that name and forever more surrender for all of time I shall proclaim.” His name is powerful!

My husband and I have been in many services. We’ve been married for 21 years and my husband was in the ministry before I married him and, there have been some encounters with demon possession from time to time. I remember one particular incident, when my husband and I were dating, and he was preaching a revival at a church. He called me the next day and told me all about a lady that came to him for prayer after church and said to him that she had been sent from lucifer to kill him, and the Pastor also heard her say it. Well sisters, prayer was on and the battle was hot. They prayed for her and she fell to the ground and slithered like a snake and the vilest language came forth. She was even foaming at the mouth. I know this sounds horrible and it was, they had to pray a long time that night. The pastor, my husband, and several from the church. When she was delivered she cried and cried, and today is the sweetest lady I’ve ever met. Satan had her bound in all kinds of bondage that I feel is not necessary to go into, but the main thing is she got the victory. The Lord set her free! Now don’t think I’m crazy, and that we look for demons under every rock, we don’t, but I have seen a few other occasions. Satan does have some power, but my God is greater. And we are “more that conquerors, in Christ Jesus!”

I don’t want to dwell on demons, devils, or satan here. I just know, people shouldn’t play around with the things of darkness, sin, or witchcraft. But my God is bigger! He is the deliverer. I don’t believe a Christian can be devil possessed, but I do believe they can be oppressed or depressed. There is a big difference! Satan will not cross the blood line! It says in James 2:19, “Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.” Friend, one day, “Every knee shall bow” and I’m looking forward to that day! The devil does try to keep people bound in the bondage of sin, but Jesus is our Saviour and He can set free only those who will allow Him to. He set me free!!! He saved me!!!

Thank you Lord for forgiveness of sin – thank you for the strength you give. The battles we are faced with today is yours. We give them to you. Thank you for covering us with strong arms. “You are the “Son of the Most High God!” Fill our cups to over-flowing and spill on all those around us. In Christ Jesus name – – Amen.

Keeping the Faith,

Aimee
