Please continue to pray.  It rained tonight–the road may be messy–the bus NEEDS to get as far up the mountain it can before we start DOWN our portion of the other side!

A couple of the ladies have experienced some stomach issues, so pray for them as well.  Pray for strength for the work, blessings and protection on everyone involved.  It has been a good trip so far, and hopefully, I plan to share some interviews with the other “first timers” with you so you can see what this has been like for them!

Again, if you have any questions for the Mission of Mercy Country Coordinator, Tony Duron Figueroa, you may e-mail me or facebook me.  He is an AWESOME man of God!  He did an outstanding job tonight following Pastor Tommy in preaching and translating it for the Hondurans!  They REALLY enjoyed Pastor Tommy….but hey, we are all prejudice here! Who wouldn’t enjoy his preaching?  Oh right.  Those under conviction :).

Blessings on you all! 😉

And if you watched the youtube video of the plane landing at the Tegucigalpa —OUR landing…was more intense.  That’s all I’m gonna say.  (At least until I get home)

Mission Trip

Mission of Mercy

One Child Matters

(borrowed from Mission of Mercy site)

One

Whether it’s our sponsorship program providing practical help and hope for the future, or making surgery to remove a life-threatening tumor possible, it’s about One child.

Child

This is our passion – children. We provide the opportunity for them to become productive leaders and effect change in their families and communities. To change a culture, we start with one Child.

Matters

To matter is “to have importance or consequence.” Think of how your own child has significance in your life – you would stop at nothing to protect your child from danger or harm. Whether a child attends a school in India or lives in the bush of Africa, that child Matters to us – and we are called to provide them opportunity and hope in Christ.
(the above content was borrowed from Mission of Mercy)

Now just to let you know–I shared this to get their message out there to you.

When we arrived we learned many things.  First, many children come to the center, they are loved on and treated with the kindness of Christ.  However, due to fund limitations, they can only help those who are sponsored by our dollars.  $34 a month will sponsor a child in all areas.  From feeding them, medical needs, to learning –the Child Development Center meets those needs through the support provided by sponsorship in Mission of Mercy.  Helping transform their lives through Jesus Christ–as we are HIS hands and feet, we impact their health care through the integration of all aspects of well-being: physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, and social.

Today we will have church with them—pray that it does NOT rain.  We will trek down a steep hill (minor mountain) and it is like Holmes County clay.  The bus cannot drive far and we walk….while I have not been told that it would be impossible if it rains…it does appear that it would be!

We went on our first of several home visits yesterday.  I would not take pictures of the inside for fear of causing them to feel self conscious about their living conditions.  The main room had two mattresses up on concrete blocks, and a table and 2 stackable chairs for guests.  The next room which had something like a sheet covering the door way-beyond that was the kitchen and a dirt floor.  We were welcomed, talked briefly about the mother’s child who is enrolled in the program and prayed with the family before we left.

The following pictures are self-explanatory.  I took them while on the way to the home visit with the family yesterday.  Pray for them.  Oh, one more thing….while viewing, imagine children singing while doing their laundry outside and hanging them on bushes, fences and whatever else they could find.  (That is what we experienced)

We went to this home with a couple of guides, women cannot travel alone in this area-we go in small groups.

Living conditions in the village where we are working. Very crowded-very poor.

A long way from Wal-Mart.

The picture above with Krystal and her sponsored child and family are considered in better financial position than most.  Many are single moms with very little support.

We are out of breath–but so glad we were able to visit the family!  Why am I leaning forward?  Probably because I am afraid I will roll back down the hill!
This is after the church service with the women.  They were all given a gift pack after church and were so grateful.  Most all of them hugged and thanked us as they left the school.  Sincerity written on their faces.  I had to wonder…if we had to walk the road they travel–would we bother going to church?  When we don’t have our creature comforts–the murmuring and complaining starts (I’m guilty myself).
Aaron found him a painting partner, Elmin.  The little boy with the red cap is “Carlos”.  He was very much ALL over the place!  Getting in to things…he painted a poor black dog with several white streaks….harassing anyone that stopped long enough to listen.  I told someone–he will more than likely be a preacher–or a missionary! 🙂  (Not that they harass anyone–but the fact that he has more energy than he knows what to do with!)
The young people did a GREAT job painting what we didn’t finish while we were in the women’s service!  Your kids can really work moms, so no matter what they say when they get home….they know how to do a LOT of stuff!  Hand ’em a paint brush–or broom!
We are headed to church in about 30 minutes.  Yes-we will walk down that hill (minor mountain) in dresses/skirts and then back up when service is over.  The church that is attached to the school….and I ask you to pray.  If you don’t remember why…go back and read the post where I showed you the razor wire on top of the school.
Right.
All send their LOVE back home—thank you for your prayers…will get some interviews with the “first timers” on this mission trip to send back home!
Love to all.  (I especially love my sweet man!–Hey darlin’ pie!) 🙂

Mission Trip

Erwin

The morning started early.  I was awake before 4.  Thinking, praying, wondering what the day would bring.

Little did I know before my feet hit the floor of the life changes that would take place in all of us “first timers” today.  First time on a mission trip.  I wasn’t prepared for the tears the burned–and spilled.  Jeff has been on a few missions trips—but he never warned me about the feeling you get when you look in the eyes of a child and want to help, but realize your limitations.

This little boy’s name is Erwin.  He has no sponsor.  When I first saw Erwin, he held his little hand out to me, “hola!” and then smiled big.  I shook his hand and thought how much he reminded me of my sweet boys back home.

A little while later, as the children began to gather, curious to all the happenings and the activity taking place in the church–Erwin went to the door.  He was told something in Spanish by the adult tutors standing at the door assisting the “sponsored” children inside and Erwin walked over toward the end of the church.  Standing on the outside–looking longingly with full eyes at the little children filing in.

He tries one more time.  Again, he is turned away.  “You have no sponsor”, they are sometimes told.  I’m not certain what he was told today, but as he walked away, his shoulders sagged, his head bent and he looked out at all of us–busy with our own activity.  But I saw Erwin begin to cry–and my heart burned within me.  “I want that child!”  I cried in my heart.  I turned my head so no one would see my face and went to find out what we could do to get him in today.

I’m not sure who did what, but Erwin was allowed in today.  He was so happy.  He and so many others hugged and thanked us for our “time” today.  And the songs, the music, the crafts and hugs….but it was the time that meant so much to them.

This reminded me of something when I saw little Erwin standing outside.  If you ever want to come in and fellowship with Jesus…there is no waiting outside.  The door is always open.  He never tells us “you have no sponsor”.  Our Sponsor gave His very life….and we have complete access to His presence…every-single-day.

If you want to find out how you could help sponsor a child, or even give a one time donation, please visit Mission of Mercy and lend your heart and hands.  I never dreamed it would feel this way to actually see these little ones and shake their hands–touch their faces and know that as Pastor Tommy says, “they will still be here after we go home–we need to make a difference in every way we can.”

Thanks for stopping by today–we are tired–or I would write more!  I will post more tomorrow.  Pray for the services tomorrow and the home visits next week.   Sister Rese preached a great message today to the mothers, 7 gave their hearts to Jesus–and we had several come forward for special prayer.  I will post those pictures tomorrow.

Pray for all of us.  Strength, safety and for the anointing of God to flow!

First Slide Show…but much more to tell

There is a story behind MANY of these pictures….give me time. I will get the story out.  There were many tears shed this morning when I got there.  A little boy captured my heart–he reminded me so much of our grandson, Zackary.

Then there were the little girls that just want to hug you.  And the little hands that were extended for us to shake.  “hola!”  They said.

So please look at these, share them with a friend…and I will come back and tell you some more of what God did in the service we had today with the ladies! It was awesome….

(a hint…7 gave their hearts to Jesus!)

Mission Trip

Good Morning Tay Goo See Gawl Puh

Or something like that.
Today we will be going to the Child Development Center with our leader from Mission of Mercy.  (Tony)

This was from last night’s supper meal–very good food!
And would you believe it? There are SISTERS OF FAITH here! 🙂
Stephanie Powell, Krystal Zepp, me and Marcella Scurlock

Today we will be painting, doing ministry with the moms and children.
AFTER we walk up the rear-end busting hill!  I will take a picture…it would be impossible in the rain as all the dirt looks like Holmes County CLAY.
We won’t talk about the stuff….we found in the road….eeewww.
So, we will be back on here this evening…Lord willing and the internet continues to hold! 🙂

Honduras Slide Show-Day One

I know you wish I would stop. Sorry—I don’t seem to be able to!

We are about to go to supper–in a nice place to eat…with air conditioning…

and the little children you see here won’t.

They won’t sit at a nice table and eat.

They won’t enjoy air conditioning.

They will probably go to bed and sleep without a full tummy.

My eyes filled and I did my best to hide it when I first saw the little children beside the road.  And then, there were two little girls, who looking through the bars at us in the Child Development Center had such sweetness about them, and curiosity.  I hope they come back tomorrow.

Some of you KNOW what I feel.  Some of you have been in places like this.  But this is my first time.

I will be forever changed.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.  My changed heart thanks you.

P.S.  No one is sick—Tommy, Rese, Aaron and Clarisa are doing great–and so is Timothy (Tim) and Brittany too 🙂  AND John David.  Just for those who I KNOW are sitting at home and wondering!

IF there is anything YOU want to know, ask them on facebook (or me) and we will try to post it for you!

Mission Trip

Tegucigalpa Honduras –HERE we are!

These kids know how to use their time wisely. There were some sleeping..but we won’t name names….and some “computerizing” while waiting on our flight to Houston. Spirits were good–we’ve been up since —well, some never went to bed.

This is –of course yours truly. My first plane ride. My first Mission trip. My first of several things. My first ginger ale on a plane. My first preztles on a plane. My first breakfast on a plane.

Okay. I’ll stop there.

This trip is NOT about me…but all about God and what HE has done in pulling this group together and what HE will do while we are HERE!

And about what we take with us…in our hearts.  The view from my window was awesome. God loved me enough since I’ve never been on a plane, He knew I wanted–really desired a window seat!

Y’all! I got one on both flights!

We will talk about the landing when it’s not so fresh on my mind. The one in Houston was a piece of cake! I loved it! I wanted to holler–let’s do it again!

But…uhmmm. I didn’t have those same feelings when we landed in Tegucigalpa Honduras. But hey. We are here!

I’ve already shot many pictures on our way to the Child Development Center where we will work tomorrow….but I will have to post them later tonight.

I have to tell you…I found a job I would NOT want.

Hers.
