Camp Nana with Cy and Jake!

Ya’ll! I almost forgot to show the fun day and half I had with Cy and Jake!
These two rascals could put me in the hospital if I didn’t take my vitamins! 🙂 (almost kidding)
We had a great time though–they are good eaters–and they get along without fussing. At all.
Cy could put the legendary “Little Rascals” out of BUSINESS! For real!
He is darling cutie pie and he can find more trouble than you can shake a stick at!
FOR REAL.

What am I doing today?
Ironing.
Laundry.
Packing.
Re-packing.
Trying to find everything I need to take without overpacking.
Which, if you watched the “video” my sister Aimee and I made last year for the
Bloggers Retreat…then you know…we both have a tendency to over pack.
(That is one more CRAZY video!–and we’ve all lost weight since then! Thank you JESUS!)

Oh.

Where am I going?
Scroll down.
You can find it here.
Tegucigalpa Honduras.

My First, First, and First.

First Mission Trip

First Plane Ride

First time going without a single member of my flesh and blood family.
BUT
God is with me. NO matter where on this earth–or in the sky
I travel…He never will leave my side!
Nor yours if you belong to Him!

I have received some sweet e-mails. I’m sorry I can’t reply to all today!
But I know you understand!

The washer is making a funny-not “ha-ha” -noise.
A funny as in-“I’m about to cost you a boat load”.
But that is okay.
I am married to one terrific handy-dandy-fix’it-man.

S0. Stay tuned on Friday–I plan to launch the “series” of
Mission of Mercy Honduras Bound posts!
Lord willing, I will post each night of the
happenings in Honduras.

Y’all. Pray seriously for NO ONE to experience ANY KIND of stomach issues
while we are gone. ANY KIND.

The toilet in the village we will be working in every day?
Well. Dig a hole. Take a picture.
That’s about what we have.
Yeah.
We were told we would need to bring our own TP every day.
You feeling this with me?

Makes you really appreciate Mr. Jon.
(as in the toilet)

So–for right now, I’m back to the ironing board.
Don’t want to look wrinkled.
(It doesn’t work on your face-or any other body part. Trust me.)

"A Heart For God"–over at the Cafe`

What I will be known as after I am gone is something I won’t know.

At least not here.

At every single funeral I attend these thoughts plague me. So much so that I began to wonder–on paper if not out loud, just exactly what I am.
A daughter, a wife, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, even a friend. But there is one thing I want to be known as above any other thing. I want to be known as a daughter-wife-mother-sister-grandmother who had a passionate heart for God.
There is a vast difference in the heart of true mother and the heart of a woman who has children. As you read, you must know that these are some things “I” have faced in my own life. That’s the tough thing. Learning the lessons in the first place…..

For the rest of the devotion—come on over to the Cafe` today–grab a seat–I’ve poured you a hot cup!  Sit back, relax–let’s share about life as a mom–and how Jesus impacts our lives.  Today you will find me here:

Blind Hope

I had told myself—I was breaking from “book reviews” since WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group was re-vamping their “Blogging for Books” program.  Perfect opportunity.
But then I received the last requested book—in the mail.
Blind Hope was such an inspiring story to read—not just because I’m an animal lover—but because I’m a God lover.  Because I love God with a passion and purpose—that I’ve never experienced before.
As I read this little book—I saw not only myself, but I saw others that I love dearly—and many of them I would love to give a copy of this book to—just so that they could see just “how” God loves us.  That was the picture I saw—unconditional love.
I encourage you, click on the link.  Order the book.  Read it—and share it with someone you love.  Your life will not be the same—your eyes and heart will be affected—by a blind dog.
*******************************************************
image002 An unwanted dog. An emotional rescue.
Sometimes the life you save may be your own.
Laurie had her own shattered dreams before she came to work at Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch—the ranch of rescued dreams—where broken horses and broken children encounter healing every day. Reaching out to save a dog in need, Laurie soon realized that the dog was rescuing her.
An inspiring true story told through the engaging voice of Kim Meeder, Blind Hope reveals poignant life lessons Laurie experienced from her ailing, yet courageous canine friend. Despite the blindness of her dog—and her own heart—Laurie uncovered what she really needed most: authentic love, unconditional trust, and true acceptance, faults and all.
As Laurie and her dog, Mia, both learned to follow the lead of a master they couldn’t see, Laurie discovered the transforming power of God’s selfless love even for imperfect and selfish people—and she experienced a greater love than she has ever known.
“Love is a bridge that stands firm through difficulties and connects one heart directly to another, not because of how it looks, but because of what it is.”              -Kim Meeder, Blind Hope

I will be giving away a copy of this book to a “commenter” on July 17!

Rains

2010-04-09 Lakeside April 2010 029

We need it.  We had some the night before last—powerful . . . surging . . . cleansing rain!  The skies rumbled with thunder–but we need more.

With Camp Nana officially closed (will post Cy and Jake’s photos later), the eyes turn to getting the house in shape to leave it.  Me that is.

I leave for Honduras on my first, of hopefully many, mission trips this month.  Tetanus shot scheduled–bags waiting to have the dust knocked off,  I sense something in the air.  Smells like rain.

The spiritual kind.

As I sat this morning—soaking in Him—He filled me with a fresh breath of Him.

Cleansing—covering—illuminating a once dark place.  My request of Him?  Clean out the cobwebs of my heart.  Let nothing remain that does not belong—remove every obstacle that may hinder or keep my walk from following Him to the fullest.

So that I may know Him more fully.  So that I may share what He is—what He has done—is doing—and His purpose for each of us—as we take HIS hand and follow after Him.

My journey may be totally different than yours—but if your heart is linked to His, then so is our path.  Straight from the cross to the sky.  The heavens, where the rain falls from.

For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring; (Isaiah 44:3)

The heavens—where the rain falls from

The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Psalm 19:1 (NIV)

The heavens—where the rain falls from

The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the peoples see His glory. Psalm 97:6 (NKJV)

My  heart proclaims the wonders of God—what He has done—what He is doing!

I once read a story about a parched land and two farmers.*  Severe was the drought—they both prayed with all their might for rain to fall.  One farmer stayed on his porch and watched the sky.  While the other farmer plowed his field in the hot scorching sun though the dry dusty ground was hard to till.  He worked on.

Which farmer was believing God to answer his prayer?

Their love for God may have been the same—yet only one farmer truly believed God was about to pour out the rain—and he had to hurry to get the ground ready to receive.

And soon the skies thundered—and the rains came.

*The author of this story is unknown to me—and I may have changed the wording since I don’t know where I read it—but the message of the story stuck.  If we are to be able to bless others from the rains that come into our lives, we must “prepare” the ground of our hearts.

Prepare is the word that I have heard over and over from my Father since this leg of my journey has begun.  And that, dear friend is what I am doing.  Preparing my heart and life for “more of Him”.

For more of Him—there are things that must be, not just shelved, but removed.  Completely.  Not that they are necessarily wrong—but perhaps for me they are a distraction.

Anything that distracts us from our common sense search and seeking of the heart of Christ must be removed in order for us to receive all that He has for us.

Friends
.expect changes!

Good ones!

For I am faithfully,

Following Him

28 Years Ago Today

God began a work.

A good work.

Into the lives of 2, God brought many!

2010-05-11_Gayles_Lake_013

Staying together through all the battles life can bring is rare for so many today
yet with God—we are here!  Glad to have our arms wrapped tightly around each other!

Thank you LORD for the blessing of marriage.  Thank you LORD for the blessing of my sweet man, myOld_Family_Pictures_015 children, grandchildren, and all the lives You bring into our hearts and home!

“Trust in the LORD with all  your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”  Proverbs 3:5-6

I am thankful of where we’ve both come from—I am thankful for the heritage we both have—and the legacy we will leave behind.

Follow Jesus.  No matter where the path leads, follow Him—as He directs and leads your lives—you can rest assured, He will be there—at the end to meet you!header

What started out with just us two

Psalm 121

A song of ascents.

1 I lift up my eyes to the hills— August_2009_Ellijay_016
where does my help come from?

2 My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.

3 He will not let your foot slip—
       he who watches over you will not slumber;

4 indeed, he who watches over Israel
       will neither slumber nor sleep.

5 The LORD watches over you—
       the LORD is your shade at your right hand;

6 the sun will not harm you by day,
       nor the moon by night.

7 The LORD will keep you from all harm—
       he will watch over your life;

8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going
       both now and forevermore.
