Thankful Thursdays, Wanda

HALLELUJAH!

HALLELUJAH! I say Hallelujah….because that was the exact word that one of the attorneys said when I told him Wanda was released from the hospital! The most unexpected word from him ever! It was funny—and awesome…..you’d have to work here to understand. *Grin*.
It is gloomy looking, very cool, wet, windy and just not a pleasant day for “sky watching”…..unless you are expecting “Someone to appear!” A friend of mine lost an earring this week and we’ve all been looking at the ground/floor as we walk. No looking up. Just down.
Do you know what you see when you look down? Junk. A mess. Dirt in the corner, dirty baseboards (you know I have a thing about baseboards), little giblets of paper, pieces of trash brought in from outside. It will make your neck hurt to constantly look down. You lose your focus. You may even run into a tree limb (like I did at the post office the other night—well it was dark!).
I needed to change my focus this week. I have looked down at the gloomy circumstances of things so long that my neck hurts. So, here we go. The best day of the week. Where we all “choose” to look up. Not down. Not at what we don’t have, but at what we do have. That’s what Thankful Thursday is all about. Thank you my sweet friend Iris for gathering us all together at your “house” to look UP!
eI am thankful for a WONDERFUL Bible Study last night at Wanda’s house! With her! AND Beth Moore! We began the “Stepping Up” study last night, and sisters—-this is THE ONE for us all!
eI am thankful for the winter weather…yes it’s cold, yes it’s been a bit rainy….but we need it.
eI am thankful for my sweet friend (in real life), Elizabeth who gave birth to an awesome baby boy weighing in at 9 lbs 2 oz! He starts school in a week! (kidding)
eI am thankful for my family. The closeness of each heart.
eMost of all, I am thankful for my Father. In heaven. His love knows no boundaries….He will reach in the deepest pit for me….wade through the thickest mud…..and show me love when I am at my most “unlovable”. That’s my Father.
Join us all over at Iris‘ house! That would be “Sting my heart“.
Iris’ verse for the day: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. ~ Ephesians 2:8-10 (ESV)

Got Peace?

Here I go, first step – first baby blog. I finally did it, does this impress you Angie, that I can actually do something technical. Well, it will impress my teenage daughter, Valaree. Before this was posted Angie checked it so, if something is wrong with it, she proof read it.
From the start, lets get this straight: Angie is the oldest sister, Wanda is the “middle” sister, and I’m the baby sister. I figured I needed to enlighten everyone on this, out in blogville! Okay, Angie I’ll get to the blog. (Aimee, you are a real stinker for this!)
A few weeks ago the Lord blessed my heart with some thoughts on this verse and I wrote it down: “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” Colossians 3:15.

What is the opposite of peace? Maybe restlessness. How do you let Christ’s peace rule? When things are in utter chaos and everything seems a mess (the Lord gave me this thought at the end of November)- you give God the entirety of the situation. There is nothing I can do that can bring peace – it must come from Him. Let God take charge! Christ’s peace is not a denial of the circumstances, but instead a commitment to the fact that He is enough for your circumstances- my circumstances. When we put God in the driver’s seat and we relax in peace, then He will get us there, and on time, He rules! There is a certain saying – “Girls rule.” Well, my view is: God rules. At least, I want Him to – only then do we have true peace.
Recently, I made a decision. Prayed about it, but no answer – “Silence gives consent,” right? Not always. I made a drastic job change. Thinking I needed a retirement plan, I needed more benefits, better pay, etc… Nothing is wrong with this idea, except what’s the cost – peace?
That’s a high price to pay! When I think of peace, I picture a hoola hoop of stress around a person, but the person in the center remains calm, stable, controlled. You can’t hoola hoop if you lose the rhythm or focus. If you lose the centrifugal force of stability, the hoop will always come tumbling down around you. Look at Abraham and Sarah, promised a son – felt like they had to wait too long. “Maybe God needed some help,” or so they thought. This promise seemed impossible from the natural stand-point. They decided to take their puzzle and force it together like some miss-matched puzzle pieces, and what they got was a distorted picture, no peace – utter chaos, turmoil – and hurt people.
They decided having Hagar in the picture was not quite what God had in mind. They didn’t see the whole picture, only the puzzle pieces they had. If only they would have waited for the Master to take the right pieces and bring peace.
Speaking of peace, what about poor Peter? The storm raged many times in his life and Jesus had calmed the storm. Walking on water seemed like a good idea. Might be better than riding in a boat, maybe some extra “benefits” and might even draw a crowd. It even sounded fun! – But when his focus changed, his eyes were not on Jesus – they were in the beginning, but not right now, and maybe he had been thinking, “I can do this on my own”, however; when the stormy sea started slapping around his legs, the fear came – no peace.
The saying is true, “No God, no peace; know God, know peace.” He can give the peace in your heart, just bring Him all your pieces. Our ways are not His ways, and our thoughts are not always in line with His. Waiting can be tough, but hold on, it’s easier to wait with peace than being pieced together.
Once, I was making a dress. I laid the pattern out wrong and ended up not having enough material to cut the whole thing out (now I remember why I don’t sew), so I had to piece it together. (I don’t think I wore it, if I did, it was only on Wednesday night. Ha! Ha!)
If I had only read the directions, or maybe sought some help rather than rush – that crazy dress might still be in my closet!
Allow God to give you peace in the stormy places. The peace that God gives is fulfilling. Peace is a quiet place – let’s go to that quiet place and rest in Him.

Keeping the Faith,

The Sisters (Aimee)

Family Driven Faith!

Loni from “Writing Canvas” is having an awesome book give-away! Family Driven Faith: Doing What it Takes to Raise Sons and Daughters Who Walk With the Lord by Voddie T. Baucham, Jr.
In Loni’s words: “This book is phenomenal. Not only is it a wake-up call for the family, it’s a wake-up call for our churches. If you are a Christian family, wanting your children to stay committed with ”real Christianity” you need to read this book. The statistics are staggering how many teens profess to be Christians yet by the end of their freshman year of college, 88% of them walk away from their faith. “

The give-away ends January 17—so hurry! Click on “Writing Canvas” and get over there! FAST!

Thanks Loni, for this timely book! (I hope I win!!)

The Price of Sin

God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging. Selah
There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.
Psalm 46:1-5

I go to bed almost every night listening to songs or praise and worship or the Bible on tape or CD playing. I want to fill my heart/soul/mind with the Word. With Him. We have much trouble in the land today….we need much strength for the journey.

It is very evident —- with everything that has transpired in our family in the past 3 weeks that more of the Word, more of the Spirit and more time in prayer to the Father is necessary for survival. I want no room for disobedience, nor straying thoughts or heart.

In my 46 years of life I have witnessed many things. Some good. Some bad. I have learned from the mistakes of others. I have made many of my own. One thing I have learned, and is also a statement my home church pastor has made many times from the pulpit: “Sin will take you further than you wanted to go; Cost you more than you wanted to pay; And stay longer than you intended it to stay.”

The following is lengthy, but from my heart….so get comfortable….

In thinking of the price of sin, Samson came to mind. Samson found out after much dallying in sin with Delilah, that sin would bind and blind you. And no matter how much you “shake” yourself, you cannot shake free from sin on your own. Only Jesus can set you free and restore your vision.

Samson was brought up in a believing home. Yet Samson became disrespectful to his heritage. He chose to disregard not only his parents wishes and desires for him, but he blatantly went against God’s commandments and law for His people. He was more concerned with his desires. The lusts of the flesh. And rather than use the gift of strength God had given him to bring glory to God, he chose to fulfill his own sinful desires.

Samson paid a high price for his sin. Samson was so full of himself that he had no room for God. He was so enthralled with what he could do – – he forgot the Origin of his strength. When he fell in love (or what he thought was love) with the evil Delilah—the very “employee of the enemy”—the trap was set. She probably wore a T-Shirt that, in sparkly letters stated: “I Always Get My Man”. Get him she did.

After four attempts, using every imaginable femine wile to get him to reveal the secret of his strength to her — she “got her man”. When he awoke to the realization that he was no longer the “man” he was, I believe he began to feel something he never felt before. Fear. I believe he began to sweat.

With racing heart, he tried to shake free from the fear that held him as tight as the chains that would soon bind him. To no avail. The Spirit of Almighty God had left him. No longer would he feel the presence of the Lord. No longer would he feel the might of God as in times past. Those days were over. The Bible says that Samson didn’t even know what happened. He didn’t realize that the Spirit of the Lord had left him. Chapters 13-17 of Judges tell us the complete story of Samson. There were some good days. Some obedient days. But it was the times of disobedience and sin that caused Samson’s demise. Had he not followed after the lust of the flesh….I believe things would have ended differently for Samson.

In the end, God did use Samson again. But he had to give his very life to be used. I imagine (my opinion only), that Samson was very angry when he was captured. Angry at his “girlfriend” for tricking him. (Watch where you lay your head) Angry at his parents, for surely they “knew” people, and could get him out. Angry at God for giving him strength and then taking it away.

It was not until he came face to face with the realization that “he”, Samson, was the one that had played right into the hand (lap) of the enemy did his heart began to change.

In Samson’s final prayer (Judges 16:28), he demonstrated more repentance and faith than he had in years. Maybe in his whole life. God heard. God answered. Samson made it to the “Hall of Faith” (Hebrews 11:32).

I am thankful that the price for my sin was paid on Calvary. Although I have suffered the consequences for sinful actions in my life. The payment of my sin has been paid in full. You may have suffered from your own sinful actions as well.

Or, you may be suffering due to the sinful actions of another. If that is the “suffering” case, God is your help in time of need. He is your STRENGTH. YOUR STRONGHOLD. He will hold you in His tender hand. He too suffered due to the sinful actions of others. Ours.

I suppose what made me the most upset with my girls as they were growing up, was the fact that I could not for the life of me, get it through their thick heads, that there would be a price to pay for misdeeds. No matter how much I blathered on about it! They never seemed to hear! Somewhere — somehow—we all learn the lesson of disobedience to God and parents. Tiffany can absolutely testify to that now. April would tell you as well.

I am following hard after the steps of my Father. I want with all my heart for His Word to speak into my heart His desires for me. For my life. It is a very hard journey at times. But it is the only journey for me. That other road….the one I used to travel?…. the bridge to that road was long ago washed out….there is no other way for me, but His way.

Sisters, do you remember the old song….”I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, I have decided to follow Jesus, no turning back…..no turning back.” (Did you sing it with me?) I am following Him.

Keeping the Faith,

The Sisters (Angie)
Thank you, Wanda

Plowing, Coming Home and other such things…

!!!!NEWS NEWS NEWS!!!!
GUESS WHO CAME HOME LAST NIGHT FROM THE HOSPITAL???
I’LL GIVE YOU ONE GUESS!
YES!
WANDA!

Can I tell you what an awesome God we serve? Can I tell you He can do things that we cannot even imagine? When things looked like she might not get out this weekend due to potassium being too high—God miraculously turned things around!!!

Today she is resting, glad to be home, is on oxygen, but—-said last night that “she intends to be off as soon as the fluid is gone”! I do not doubt what God can do! Sometimes it’s hard to have faith in the middle of the trial….but Wanda has the strength of the Lord in her life.

I will post more on this later.

Right now I want to point you to a blog I read this morning. His name is Joel and I found him by way of Cindy Swanson. Go and read about plowing—-very good post! His blogspot is called the “Seventh Sola“.

Okay, that’s about it for now. This is short and sweet today—just a bit of family update!
Have a blessed weekend!!
