If I Can Help ONE…

Y’all are the coolest bunch!

I tell you—I wanted to reach through the computer and hug every last one of you that offered some AWESOME advice!

Did YOU know there is a “saliva” test that can tell you levels of your hormones, adrenal levels, thyroid and cortisol levels and more stuff than I dreamed possible? It is a test that spans a 24 hour period. Supposedly safe…but really. How SAFE can it be when you are to abstain from chocolate, caffeine, broccoli, cabbage, mouthwash, antacids, other various green leafy vegetables, caffeine, chocolate, etc.

Did I mention no caffeine….or chocolate which has caffeine?? And all you have to do is spit in a little vial…at 4 intervals during the day…fasting the morning meal…and no coffee…or chocolate…oh, sorry. I said that already.

I never believed I’d be sharing all this…but if I can help ONE person—the way you have ALL helped me—then I will have done something!

I cleaned house on Saturday….but seemed to have to constantly give myself a “pep-talk” to get through it…actually, Babbie Mason, and several choir C.D.’s seemed to help with momentum!

I helped Jeff on Sunday get some last minute (which lasted all day) things ready for District Council/Camp Meeting which started Sunday night….and let me just say…I am exhausted from this weekend of “work”! But God is good! All the time! Even when I am so exhausted my prayer is done “flat out” on the bed!

Monday rolled in with a ….well, let’s just say it rolled in. The early morning trip to the doctors office to pick-up said “kit” for testing…and then on to the office.

I have decided one thing. I don’t have hot flashes…I have a fever. Sometimes several fevers in one day. Many times during the night. Fevers can cause sweating, flushed face, nausea, exhaustion—and tiredness….see…I have fevers.

Case closed.

I’ll let you know what the doctor orders. 🙂

Are You Feeling Surrounded?

One of the attorney’s I work for is a weekend diver. Nothing thrills him more than a clear day and some deep water.

Well, I take that back…one of Jeff’s cakes does cause him to stumble a bit…but I am talking about a really good day. The kind of day you anticipate the night before.

I remember when my baby sister, Aimee and I went to North Carolina for the She Speaks Conference last summer. We both had trouble sleeping the night before.

Mine was due to the fact I was busy crossing the “t’s” and dotting the “i’s” on the material we were to have ready….Aimee was busy “thinking”…packing, and most likely cooking for the family she was leaving at home. She left them with “reheating” instructions and a solemn promise of her soon return.

The trip was filled with excitement and incredulity. We were first AMAZED that we made it through Atlanta unscathed. Or, to be more specific…that we didn’t scathe anyone else. Secondly, it was incredible to find ourselves in the same room with the “best” Writers, Speakers and Women’s Leaders in the world! Well, maybe not the world—but at least in the Southeastern United States. How’s that?

However, upon coming back home, life invaded our dream world. Our world of where we could buy that little house or bookstore and turn it into an inviting Tea Room, filled with books, soft music, Jeff’s cakes, cookies and the best hot coffee or cup of tea, and always a friend or a soon to be friend browsing the shelves in search of the next best read.

Yes, life resumed. Actually, I think it picked up pace. As in every one’s life…there are days when we feel surrounded.

Just when you think you are swimming serenely alone, you find yourself suddenly surrounded by a cloud of Baitfish. Just as this picture of the Sea Turtle, he was minding his own business and became enveloped by the Baitfish. The Baitfish are EXACTLY what the name implies. Bait. For bigger fish.

Finding himself encompassed by Baitfish will cause the heart to quicken it’s beating, the diver explained. The “cloud of Baitfish” is so thick, you lose your vision. You lose sight of where you are. It becomes a vertiginous dive. Dizziness overtakes you and you don’t know which end is up.

You know that you must get out of the overwhelming cloud—somehow—because you know what could be coming. A hungry fish. Very hungry. Hungry enough to possibly chomp on a hand—arm—foot—even part of your face.

Isn’t that what sometimes happens in our lives? We are surrounded with feelings of doubt, insecurity, and many times the overwhelming desire to “give-up”—a feeling of hopelessness.

In talking with a young mother months ago, the feeling of a life filled with emotional vertigo was overtaking her. I could clearly see what she needed to do. I could give her immediate instructions which way to paddle her swiftly sinking boat. But she was so surrounded by the Baitfish in her life she couldn’t see or hear me. It wasn’t until the predator fish was about to overtake her did she comprehend the whereabouts of her help.

I lift my eyes to the hills–where does my help come from?
My help comes from the LORD,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip–
he who watches over you will not slumber;
indeed, he who watches over Israel
will neither slumber nor sleep.
Psalm 121:1-4
There are many days when it seems life is running faster than I am. I have to press on—and press in to have my time with the Father–to keep the “things” of this world from crowding out that precious time. My time with Him—keeps everything in proper balance—the baitfish will not loom as a dark cloud when He’s the CENTER of my attention.
What about you?
What are you distracted by this week?

Adversity and Destiny

To him who overcomes, I will give the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God. Revelation 2:7 (NIV)

Have you been side swiped by adversity? I don’t mean in a car. I mean in your heart—your life. Something that has stumped your toe–tripped you up.

A storm in your life that may have caused you to run for cover. Only maybe you didn’t run for the right Cover.

For the rest of this devotion, head over to the Cafe`— on Tuesday morning—bright and early! Where the coffee is hot—the seats are comfy, and the company is sweet! I hope to see you there!

What’s Your Filling?

Donuts. Cookies. Cakes. Pies. Hungry?

These are a weakness of mine.

Donuts—I like the lemon filled best. UNLESS of course you happen to drive by the bright lights of Krispey Kreme and the blazing sign says, “Hot Now”. Right. Then it’s just the glazed ones…oh my lordy-mercy!

But I admit, it’s been a while since I had a donut.

Cookies…white chocolate macadamia nut.

Cakes. Cakes are not my choice dessert. I know. Jeff makes the best cakes in all of the Tri-State area. I said it’s not my top choice…I didn’t say I wouldn’t eat one! I like the Red Velvet cake he makes…and the Butter-Nut. But the man makes a German Chocolate cake that is —oh my stars good! Did I mention he’s mine?

Okay. On to the pies. Pies I love. I love peach, apple, chocolate, LEMON, pecan, blackberry, blueberry, cherry, anything except rhubarb. I like pies.

All of these have a filling. Yummy-to-my-tummy filling. If you cut it, mash it, throw it, stomp it…guess what comes out? Right. The filling shows right away. Oozing and dripping out faster than you can grab a spoon to scoop it up!

What happens when you’re pressed. Stomped? Tossed down like yesterdays newspaper? Your filling…my filling will come forth. Every—single—time.

Quote

From the online Blue Letter Bible – 2Cr 4:7-10 (NLT)
“But this precious treasure–this light and power that now shine within us–is held in perishable containers, that is, in our weak bodies. So everyone can see that our glorious power is from God and is not our own. We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed and broken. We are perplexed, but we don’t give up and quit. We are hunted down, but God never abandons us. We get knocked down, but we get up again and keep going. Through suffering, these bodies of ours constantly share in the death of Jesus so that the life of Jesus may also be seen in our bodies.”

Hard Pressed on every side. Yet not destroyed. This entire chapter is special to me. I have read it over and over and it ministers every time. To whatever need I have.

Can we seek to be so filled with Jesus Christ that no matter what happens in our lives of dailyness…that He just oozes out all over everyone—and everywhere? I know that dailyness is not a word, but I think it fits here. Can I just add that to your vocabulary? I have a t-shirt from Mary Englebriet that states, “Life is Just So Daily”.

To me that says it’s FULL. Of stuff that you might not expect. Jesus should be found in the daily of our existence. Not just on Sundays! In the Monday-Saturday too!

So…what’s your filling?

faith, Life, Thankful Thursdays

Thankful Thursday

I have MORE blessings than I can count. I’m not bragging….just being truthful.

So do you.

Think about it. Did you read this? Well? Thankful #1. You could see. Thankful #2 You can read. If someone read this aloud to you, then there’s Thankful #3—you can hear.

A minor traffic mishap of a nephew made me thankful. No one was hurt. The driver of the other vehicle—the one that caused the mishap had no legs.

Did you blink? Yeah, me too. The accident didn’t cause his legs to “not be there”—they weren’t there before. He was driving with 2 sticks. I have a hard time picturing this—and this disturbed the nephew much more than the accident itself I think.

But there you go. If you drive using both legs—and both arms—both eyes and both ears…—shoot—if you can DRIVE there’s a miracle to be thankful for all in itself! But–back the things we were naming….the legs? Arms?—Right. Thankful #’s 4 and 5. We can go ALL DAY at this. I am sure you are now getting the point.

There are things all around us that are blessings poured straight into our lives from the very throne! Thankfuls.

I’ve not been here on Thankful Thursday for several weeks. Doesn’t mean I’ve stopped being thankful. I’m VERY thankful….just been very busy. Bogged down. Sort of. Not in the mud mind you…but in life itself.

But God is good. Oh, Sisters…so very good!

On Monday of this week as I drove my 42 miles one way—the weather was ripe for a tornado. And it happened. Not near me—but at my mother-in-law’s house. While they were sleeping.

The pretty pear tree in the picture was laid over on the house, a huge cedar tree fell against the back of the house—right over where they were sleeping. THANKFULLY—the roof did not collapse. However, many shingles were ripped off the roof and soon the roof began to leak—and then soon the water caused the ceiling to give way in the dining room and other rooms. BUT—no one was hurt.

The picture was taken just last week. Who would have known that in just a few short days…the landscape would totally change.

That happens in our lives as well. As circumstances become difficult—the landscape of our lives can become a veritable misshapen disaster area. But if GOD was the one in charge of our lives, then no amount of storm or wind will uproot our hearts from the foundation of faith.

I know. Lived this one out. More than once.

Look around you today. I encourage you to write down some things that you notice—be thankful. Share those thankful thoughts with someone else. Visit Laurie at Women Taking a Stand to read MORE thankful hearts!

Not Satisfied?

“My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.” Psalm 42:2

There’s a song a great trio sings from my home church, Carmel Assembly of God, titled, “I’m Not Satisfied”. Powerful message in this song. It brings tears to my eyes and many thoughts to my head.

I have realized many things recently about my walk with Christ Jesus, and the ways of many churches. I’m not satisfied just hearing about how God formerly moved in the lives of His people. I want Him moving in my life. EVERY DAY. With the Powerful Anointing of the Holy Spirit!

I’m not satisfied with the blessings of yesterday. I have issues today.

I’m not satisfied with the anointing of the Holy Spirit from the weekend “Sister’s Retreat”. I want that on a daily basis.

I’m not satisfied living a mediocre life. I want more of God in my life than I have ever had before.

Sounds like I’m just not satisfied.

My heart has been hungry for more of God and feeling less satisfied with where I am spiritually.

What will it take to satisfy me?

Let me just stick my neck way out here…(some of you may not come back!) and say—I don’t believe that God is satisfied with us being satisfied either. I believe HE wants us SEEKING for MORE of Him!

To go even further with the neck stuck out….I believe it will TAKE more of Him in these last days! As we draw closer to the DAY of His return…I believe the power we will need to draw from will come from Him alone.

One thing I learned long ago….when you begin praying for more and seeking more…chaos will occur.

Maybe not in the form of turbulent storms…but in the “eye twitching” aggravating things of life. You know, little things that cause stress, and as they mount up, the overwhelming feeling of an avalanche of emotions overtake you and the nerve endings in your eye starts jumping….and then before you know it, you have a full blown “eye twitch”. How do I know? I am experiencing that right now!

The enemy of our lives will do anything possible to hinder the work of the Lord. When he spots a bit of progress, baby look out—he is about to send some of his slimy forces to attack. Be ready. Be on your guard. The Bible clearly warns us.

I Peter 5:6-11
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you. Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to His eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will Himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. To Him be the power forever and ever. Amen. “

Did you read all of that? Be humble before the Lord. Don’t be too proud to call on Him for help. Don’t be too proud to ask for prayer from your sisters-in-Christ. Don’t be satisfied in the place you are in…God has a higher ground to take you! He tells us He will lift us up and restore us “Himself”…with His own hand. We are to cast, throw, or pour out all our troubles and worries on Him….because He CARES for us!

Be alert! Be on guard! Stand at attention…always! Everyday! When you resist the devil, standing firm on what God has promised, you will suffer. A l-i-t-t-l-e while. That’s what the Bible said. You will. Count on it. BUT, it also said that He, God, will restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. You will be stronger for the next battle.

Huh? The next one? Yes. Girlfriend, there will be battles until the day He calls us home. If you don’t resist the devil…I’m afraid the suffering will go on and on and on….and on….and on…..

Is this too tough? Sorry. This is what He laid on my heart. This is the message for our hearts. For this hour. This day. This time in our lives.

When I have trouble or anxiety about a situation….I e-mail three Spirit filled women in blogville. The Lord has crossed our paths and we have clicked. For a reason maybe known only to God, He planted us together. Not in the same state…but with the same heart. And, for that reason, I feel that I can call on them to pray and they do. I also have a sister and a godly mother that I call on to pray. Over the years the Lord has given me godly, Spirit filled friends that pray. Their prayers are heard.

I pray for each need that is brought to my door. To my e-mail. To my phone. God expects me to. He expects us to share one another’s burdens. If a friend is too sick to “drive herself” to the doctor….are you going to drive her? Well, same principle here. Get on your knees before the throne for them. Take their needs to the “Ultimate Doctor”. The Creator.

Sometimes I visualize my prayers. Sometimes I “see myself” bringing my “box of trouble” to the Lord. Sometimes I see myself “running” to the cross dragging a heavy mangled up sack. Sometimes the need is so great, I am crawling on my hands and knees and it is tied to my ankle as I drag it before the throne. However you have to get it there…do so. Get it there and leave it. Let Him untie the bindings from your life. Whatever may have your heart all bound up, let Him cut the cords and remove the hindrances.

Hebrews 12:1-2
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”

I don’t believe that He wants us to be satisfied with where we are in Him. I believe He wants us to be ever stretching, ever reaching to go higher, stand firmer, be stronger than the day before. He wants us to “stand”. He told the apostles and believers that by “standing firm you will gain life”. (Luke 21:19 NIV) I believe with all my heart that as we take our “unsatisfied” lives to Him, He fills us with more of His Spirit. I believe that as we take the needs of our sisters to Him, He strengthens our faith and our walk with Him. But, it serves a two-fold purpose. We are strengthened, and we have aided a fellow believer with her faith. We have “shared her burden”. It is lighter. We have assisted her in taking her needs to the Lord. She is made stronger in her faith.

Only Jesus can completely satisfy my life. I purpose in my heart to seek Him out more than ever. His presence is necessary for my survival. More than anything else.

Only Jesus can satisfy my soul. Only Jesus can deal with my “eye twitch”….properly.
So….what are you doing about YOUR eye twitch?

Where are You Headed?

I had to make a run to Dothan, Alabama, on Saturday morning.

All because I had forgotten to pick up my prescription before I left on Friday. Yeah, that’s what happens these days…not only do I have to TAKE cholesterol medication—but I FORGOT to pick it up from the pharmacy! (I don’t know if it’s the “age thing”…or the stress thing….maybe it’s both!)

Anway, I was fighting the traffic the 40+ miles back home and almost EveRy VeHiCle that passed me said PC Bound—or Panama City BEACH—or some other such celebration of Spring Break! All of them seeking the sunshine and sands of our beautiful Florida Beaches! All of them from the northern area of these great United States! You heard me right when I said, “passed me”, because I KNEW the Florida Highway Patrol were bright-eyed and bushy-tailed! So I was driving as Jeremiah Castleberry accuses me of….”like a grandma”—going the limit of 65—and maybe almost 70.

As several Indianna tags passed me with the words printed on their back windsheilds, PC Bound, I thought to myself, what if I drove around with the words “Heaven Bound” printed on my back windsheild! That’s where I’m headed.

But I admit, sometimes the day-to-day sometimes causes us to forget where we are headed, our final destination —I am fully aware that this is temperary. Fleeting.

I want to share with you some glorious reading found in 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 and 2 Corinthains 5:1-14 The Message —BibleGateway (emphasis mine).

(16-18) “So we’re not giving up. How could we! Even though on the outside it often looks like things are falling apart on us, on the inside, where God is making new life, not a day goes by without his unfolding grace. These hard times are small potatoes compared to the coming good times, the lavish celebration prepared for us. There’s far more here than meets the eye. The things we see now are here today, gone tomorrow.
But the things we can’t see now will last forever.”

(1-5) “For instance, we know that when these bodies of ours are taken down like tents and folded away, they will be replaced by resurrection bodies in heaven—God-made, not handmade—and we’ll never have to relocate our “tents” again. Sometimes we can hardly wait to move—and so we cry out in frustration. Compared to what’s coming, living conditions around here seem like a stopover in an unfurnished shack, and we’re tired of it! We’ve been given a glimpse of the real thing, our true home, our resurrection bodies! The Spirit of God whets our appetite by giving us a taste of what’s ahead. He puts a little of heaven in our hearts so that we’ll never settle for less.”

(6-8) “That’s why we live with such good cheer. You won’t see us drooping our heads or dragging our feet! Cramped conditions here don’t get us down. They only remind us of the spacious living conditions ahead. It’s what we trust in but don’t yet see that keeps us going. Do you suppose a few ruts in the road or rocks in the path are going to stop us? When the time comes, we’ll be plenty ready to exchange exile for homecoming.”

(9-10) “But neither exile nor homecoming is the main thing. Cheerfully pleasing God is the main thing, and that’s what we aim to do, regardless of our conditions. Sooner or later we’ll all have to face God, regardless of our conditions. We will appear before Christ and take what’s coming to us as a result of our actions, either good or bad.”

(11-14) “That keeps us vigilant, you can be sure. It’s no light thing to know that we’ll all one day stand in that place of Judgment. That’s why we work urgently with everyone we meet to get them ready to face God. God alone knows how well we do this, but I hope you realize how much and deeply we care. We’re not saying this to make ourselves look good to you. We just thought it would make you feel good, proud even, that we’re on your side and not just nice to your face as so many people are. If I acted crazy, I did it for God; if I acted overly serious, I did it for you. Christ’s love has moved me to such extremes. His love has the first and last word in everything we do.”

I’m heaven bound…where the beaches by the River of Life will certainly be more magnificent than the “Panama City Beaches!” Nothing can compare!

By the way…I made these today. With white almond bark…mmmmm….

THE CAFE` NEWS

Okay—don’t be alarmed—JUST PRAY. An accident on the internet highway took place and the sweet chicks in charge are putting the pieces back together.

Be in PRAYER for Amy and Lori. Please. Prayer changes things. Always.

Now. Some other stuff.

I have a tendency to get the cart before the horse. Sometimes.

Today—while letting Max get some exercise—and get familiar with a leash—I put his little blue collar on and let him drag the leash around.

Since he did fairly well—I picked the leash up and he began to walk beside me. After about 10 steps he stopped. Sat his cute self right down. Wouldn’t budge. No siree. Not a bit!

I coaxed with the mommy voice. “Come on Max”…come on boy.

No movement. Whatsoever.

Then after a few minutes of slapping the side of my leg, whistling, calling. he moved in my direction. Few more steps and he did it again. This time I tried tugging. He pulled AGAINST ME!

Now, what he didn’t know…was the cool water and evening meal that awaited him. And here he sits…pulling against the very one who is trying to lead him to the nurishment. The nurishment he needs to GROW big and strong!

Does this sound familar?? I saw myself. Instantly. Pulling against things the Father has tried to lead me to…because it was unfamilar ground. Or, perhaps I had something else on my mind.

I needed to align my mind and heart with His. He would lead me straight to the water.

I read this in The Message tonight and I love the way it sounds on my ears…read it aloud…hear it for yourself.

God, my shepherd! I don’t need a thing.
You have bedded me down in lush meadows,
you find me quiet pools to drink from.

True to your word,
you let me catch my breath
and send me in the right direction.

Even when the way goes through Death Valley,
I’m not afraid when you walk at my side.

Your trusty shepherd’s crook makes me feel secure.
You serve me a six-course dinner
right in front of my enemies.

You revive my drooping head;
my cup brims with blessing.
Your beauty and love chase after me
every day of my life.

I’m back home in the house of God
for the rest of my life.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I promise that every post won’t be about Max. But God whispers a thing or two through our children, grandchildren…and yes, even our pets.
PLEASE be in prayer for Amy and Lori this week! The enemy is trying to defeat this ministry…but GOD is on our side!
Do You Smell That??
I want you to read something….
2 Corinthians 2:14-17 (Amplified Version) “But thanks be to God, Who in Christ always leads us in triumph [as trophies of Christ’s victory] and through us spreads and makes evident the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere, For we are the sweet fragrance of Christ [which exhales] unto God, [discernible alike] among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing: To the latter it is an aroma [wafted] from death to death [a fatal odor, the smell of doom]; to the former it is an aroma from life to life [a vital fragrance, living and fresh]. And who is qualified (fit and sufficient) for these things? [Who is able for such a ministry? We?] For we are not, like so many, [like hucksters making a trade of] peddling God’s Word [shortchanging and adulterating the divine message]; but like [men] of sincerity and the purest motive, as [commissioned and sent] by God, we speak [His message] in Christ (the Messiah), in the [very] sight and presence of God.”
Now tell me….do you smell that? The picture smells like summer time. But I’m talking about us. What do we smell like?
Aimee called me to share this passage and I pondered. And chewed. Much like our puppy–chewing his toy.
If I read this right…we are supposed to be smelling like HIS love! HIS mercy! HIS grace!
“…we are the sweet fragrance of Christ…”
To like-minded believers, our fragrance will bear witness with their own. To unbelievers…the smell will not be as pleasant….our smell of Christ will represent the coming doom of their souls, should they choose NOT to follow HIM.
I have a keen sense of smell. I usually can spot a dirty diaper (or gassy baby—of course–that smell is the same) upon entry to my house. Sometimes when they are just getting out of their truck. When I come home from work—and get out of my truck…if Jeff “fried” something for lunch…I can smell it. Several years ago I went through this hormonal phase of food smells making me terribly nauseated. Especially fried. So we stopped frying. I still don’t fry. Jeff does, only when I’m not home. AND if he thinks he can have the house rid of the smell by the time I get home.
Why did I get off on all that? Who knows. Anyway—back to what I was saying…we smell. Either of life or of death. Not the death—as in about to leave this life. NO that’s a smell all it’s own. Let me share a story with you. A stinker.
A family came in to visit with the doctor. Check-up or shots or sick child. I don’t remember. What I do remember is the smell. As it was described to me—I almost EXPERIENCED IT! A smell so horrible—coming from every indiviual in a particular family—that everyone in the office noticed and commented on it…except the members of the family. They couldn’t smell it. Finally, the young boy of the family began to play along. Like he smelled it too. But he really didn’t. See, whatever the smell was—they had lived in it and with it for so long they no longer noticed the smell. Do you sniff where I’m going with this??
I am talking about the smell of impending doom. Death. Darkness. Zero.–as in a stinky attitude! (I’ve had that smell myself!)
I DoN’t want to smell of death. I want to have the aroma of Christ. Life everlasting! Peace! EVEN while enduring a trial! Life–love–grace–mercy—CHRIST. All the smells you can think of that brings a smile to your lips!
A new baby. Fall in the air. Early morning Springtime. Ocean breezes. A toasty fireplace. Bread coming out of the oven. Coffee in the morning. Crisp clean sheets. Fresh laundry…I could go on and on!
So…back to my first question….do you smell that? What aroma do you think of when you consider the love of Christ? AND His love toward us . . .
Go ahead…take a big whiff…..
