Jesus Lives~by Sarah Young (Book Review)

Sarah Young has once again given us heart compelling words to challenge us daily to dig deeper into His Word. The devotional, “Jesus Lives”, published by Thomas Nelson Publishing Company, is written with a Voice that speaks to our hearts with reflective scriptures to ponder daily.

The style of writing speaks to me, as if He alone had penned them for my day.  I believe that as she has written these daily devotions, her heart was minute by minute in tune with His–for our lives.  With entries entitled “Abiding in Him, Brokenness, His Faithfulness, Freedom in Him, Renewing Your Mind, Trials, Trust Wisdom and Worship”, just to name a few, it is clearly the best gift to give someone.  Recently, I specifically chose this book to send to a friend to share the blessings and Scripture tucked inside.

Your heart will be blessed by this book.  The tender love from our Father to each of us is felt with each word.  Sarah Young is also the author of, “Jesus Calling” and “Dear Jesus, Seeking His Light in Your Life”.

Blessings on your week!

The Air That I Breathe

Under an almost leafless tree, you will find me parked in my car at lunch.

On most days.

Today was one of those days.

As I was sitting there, mulling over the fact that I could not enjoy the sunshine and breeze that was evidently going on by the stirring of the grass and limbs of the tree—because I had to “work” inside all day, it hit me. Like the sunshine beaming down.

Why not? Why can’t you, for just this moment in time, roll down your window and feel the breeze blowing and feel the sun’s warmth?

Well, duh! I can roll my window down! How simple would that be! And for just these few moments, enjoy the weather provided.

With not another minute to lose in my mully-grubbing heart, I rolled down all four windows and the breeze instantly rushed in, carrying with it the sweet promise from heaven–His love.

His love can be felt anytime we make ourselves open to Him. Available to Him.

How often do we sit inside our lives with the windows of our soul rolled up tight–refusing to breathe the freshness of the Holy Spirit? I have found myself in such condition. Breathing in only the stale -stagnate air of flesh. The air that depresses and even kills the spirit man.

But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:4-7 NIV

I believe that the enemy of our lives wants us to keep the windows of our heart rolled up tightly against the love that HE so lavishly affords us! Through the gift of His grace, we are heirs in Christ Jesus! All the reason in the world to keep those windows rolled down and breathe in His gifts! Life eternal! Life divine!

Are your windows open?

Are you breathing in His Holy Spirit?

What are some things that block the Holy Spirit from penetrating our lives?

I Still Trust Him

So….here we are.
Angie and Aimee. The oldest girl and the baby girl.

Our picture is forever altered. For there was a face that fit right in the middle. Wanda’s.

We carry on.
In Faith.
Forever Trusting.
Always believing….in Him.
After all, we do have a job to do.
Share His truth.
With everyone we can.
All who will recieve.

“And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” Mark 16:15

We will be her voice. We will share the love of Christ with others. We will carry on.

I feel that both Aimee and myself have a new found determination to do more. Go further. Carry more. Tell more. Be more for Christ, Who was all for us.

We began with the T-Shirts. They speak a message.

Sisters we are….faith we have…Christ we share.

And the verse? “Wait on the Lord. “Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.” Psalm 27:14

I can’t tell you what she saw when she took His hand and entered in….but I can tell you what I felt. I felt the glory of God as I have never experienced it before.

I felt—more than saw….a glimmer of His Presence as the heavens parted for her to make her entrance as He extended His hand. As a conductor lifts his arm and completes an emotionally riviting piece of music….sweeping His arm upward, reaching higher for the highest note to be heard…I felt her move in spirit to the “higher places” with the Father. The beginning of the most beautiful song heard imaginable.

Sisters of faith…and sisters that have not yet decided to accept His love….Accept Him.  Accept His love. Accept His Gift. Christ Jesus’ life. His sacrifice. Accept Him today!
I intend to hear that song for myself. Her song as well as mine. For we each have one you know. At least it’s what I believe. Whatever I need to change in my life…I will change. Whatever He chooses for me….I accept. He is my all. My Savior. My Father and soon coming King.

If Wanda could tell us something today…it might be:

“Sisters, the cross will be heavy at times, but you will never have to carry it alone. The Lord will be your guide…as He was mine. Remember the past victories and rejoice! Remember the countless blessings and take heart! There truly is joy in the morning!

Within myself, I had no strength, but through the power and strength of trusting in God—He gave me what I needed. Everytime. You can make it to the end! You can finish the race!”

Keeping the faith and following Him,

Basking In The Light

Sofa from HomePlaceFurniture 257

The porch swing at my mother’s is a favorite place of reflecting. Yo-Yo, the spoiled cat, likes to attend his daily regimen of grooming while bathed in the light filtering through the screen.

There has been many pouring of heart and soul on this porch for more years than I can count. I have been prayed over and read to, prayed for in the quiet dawn, and as the hush of dusk fell on the grounds. The Light was present.

I have felt the power behind the prayers prayed from this porch. God heard. AND He answered. There are days, I need to sit on that porch of prayer and peace. I need to feel the Light.

Today, I have felt the strength that comes from prayer—the power and anointing is ours when He reaches down, through and into our lives and meets the need.

The need? There have been times I couldn’t put a name to it. Have you ever been in that place? Where the prayers you pray seem to stop at the ceiling? The urgent need of your life remains nameless to you, all the while He knows the need of your heart.

I’ve been there more than once. There have been times recently when I have needed to sit in that place. That place in the Light. Even though I can’t get to that porch today, I can get to the cross. Unload and unwind. Allow the fingers of the Holy Spirit to kneed away the frustrations of life and apply the balm that soothes and strengthens.

Strength is gathered. Soldier boots are pulled on and laces tightened. With the renewed strength for the journey, we carry on in a run now—headed for the finish line. Doing all we can for the cause of Jesus Christ!

“You save the humble, but your eyes are on the haughty to bring them low. You are my lamp, O LORD; the LORD turns my darkness into light. With your help I can advance against a troop; with my God I can scale a wall.” 2 Samuel 22:28-30 NIV

Keep running the race—I believe I see the Flagman waving us in just up ahead!

The First Annual Marianna First A/G Sisters of Faith Retreat!

http://picasaweb.google.com/s/c/bin/slideshow.swf

What a time we had! I wish I could adequately share with you the awesome power of God as He covered His daughters on Friday night and again Saturday morning as Connie shared her heart! She brought forth the Word in a power-packed way! We gobbled it up!

The anointing of the Holy Spirit was rich–and the tears fell from all our eyes as we each in turn, pondered our own lives and hearts before God.

This is just a sample of the fun and fellowship! Enjoy the photos–we have no pictures of the actual service or prayer times, but know this….it was life changing for every heart there!

Jeff said I looked different when I got home…if he only knew the joy that overflowed this past weekend! I could only share bits–I’ve got to roll this over and over in my heart. I am forever changed! More in love with Jesus than ever before!

Now, I will NOT let the cat completely out of the bag….but there will be news VERY SOON about the 2010 Sisters of Faith Retreat. (Formerly known as the “Bloggers Retreat”)

I will tell you this much….it will be in Marianna, Florida at the West Florida District Assemblies of God Campgrounds …. and the dates?? Oh, yes! October 8-9!

Start making plans and tucking back a few dollars a week! Registration costs and info will be forthcoming!

I cannot wait to see what God is going to do!

Our Treasure

There were some days…and then there were some DAYS….

When these two were growing up life was unpredictable! From an all out girl scrap (notice I did not say fight–although to some it might have appeared as such), to the almost stepped on snake at the pond (by the two pictured above), a broken nose, severed tendon in the hand, car wreck, just to name a few that come to mind tonight. This ever so tired mind. Unpredictable.

But God knew exactly what was going on —at all times in the hearts and lives of each one.
Still does. And He loves me still.
Even on the days the heart is not such a pretty picture.

The girls pictured next are special too.

This morning, mother called me and told me that she “knew” she was loved. She called to thank us for that love. In her treasure box (notes and cards), she re-read all the sweet things that we have shared and gave her over the years. I too have a treasure box. Inside are the treasures that are sweeter than honey. Words of love from those I love.

(Yes, I know it’s an old picture)

Now, when these three girls were growing up, there were not NEAR as many “issues” as the two girls in the first picture. I wonder why? Perhaps it is the better mothering that my mother did…perhaps it is the generation.

The times we were growing up were much simpler. No cell phones. Spankings were not only issued, they sometimes came with very little warning. I think these days, the warnings come and go and nothing is done…..

Unpredictable life. That’s what we have.

One thing is always predictable though, God’s love and mercy and grace.

Understand, therefore, that the LORD your God is indeed God. He is the faithful God who keeps his covenant for a thousand generations and constantly loves those who love him and obey his commands. Deuteronomy 7:9 NLT

God’s Word is our GREATEST treasure. In it we will find His love notes to us. Our instructions for living productive, fruitful and faithful lives. Our instructions for helping others, and for making it to the end.

Our mother, Valeria, taught each of us girls, Aimee the baby, Wanda, the middle, and me the oldest (if you must know), how to give. She taught by example. (Of course the baby brother is not pictured, probably because since he began serving his country in the Air Force right out of college, he has rarely been home for any length of time. Pictures with all of us are scarce as hens teeth.)

In all the days of our lives (not the soap opera), we’ve seen God faithful. Even when we lacked in faith. We’ve seen Him make a mole hill out of a mountain. We’ve seen Him heal, restore, forgive, and lavish us with His love and mercy.

My prayer for my own daughters is that one day, they can look back, dig in their own treasure boxes and see how they were loved—and what God has done in their lives.

What’s in your treasure box?
