Oh WOW!!

Y’all.  Oh. MY. GOODNESS!

I cannot TELL you how excited I am to share with you some AWESOME news!  (Not to mention, if I’m picked I get a coffee card to my favorite spot!!)  My precious friend (another one!!!) has written a BOOK!

Let me give you a BIT of history.  My baby sister, Aimee and I went to the She Speaks Conference in 2008.  GOD totally lined it up and blessed the way!

Aimee and I had arrived, full of excitement–and wonder of all that we were seeing and experiencing.  Can I tell you that butterflies took up residence in my belly!  It was indescribable.   As we finished up the last minute course that they offered and walked to the “already underway” Bloggers Reception, I saw quickly that there was hardly anyone left in the room.

I had wanted to meet several that I had been “reading” (that was before the “follower button”)–and low and behold..in a sunny yellow shirt was my precious new found friend and sister, JoanneJoanne of Blessed to be precise.  I was so thrilled!  I had no clue the road that we would journey together.

Joanne, do YOU remember what ya’ll were laughing about?

I can’t tell you have many times this girl made me laugh.  Especially when she CAME TO MY HOUSE!  What a blessed blast we had!  I think my sides HURT from laughing so hard…ask Tiffany Stuart–and Connie Haile…they would tell you the same!

Reading her book will be the highlight of your summer!  It comes out June 1–be the FIRST in line to get one—pre-order yours NOW! 😉  Go to her new site and congratulate her!!!! Sign up for her newsletter 😉

Let’s see….what else can I tell you to do—this bossy stuff is new to me…..(Yeah, Jeff says, if you believe that I’ve got a island I wanna sell ya!)

Home Sweet Home

Seeing new sights is great—meeting new people, fellow travelers on this journey toward home is wonderful, but friend, nothing compares (at least until we get to heaven) to walking in the door to your own house and kicking off your shoes and getting comfortable.

I prepared the house before we left for what I wanted to feel and see when I walked back in.  I cleaned it.  From top to bottom.  So that when we walked in, there was nothing to do but unload and unpack.  Jeff unloaded, I unpacked.  Then there was the trip laundry that needed to be done.  With more than 16 hours total on the way home (we had to detour to get the “baby”)—going as far as we could—then getting a fresh start yesterday morning.100_1918  I was glad I made the extra effort for clean sheets on the bed—not that it would have mattered at our point of exhaustion, but it sure felt good.

Scooter was as glad to see us as we were to see him.  And he felt the same way about home.  He explored the rooms, smelling, making sure nothing had changed—and then checked out his toy box, making sure nothing was missing—running—jumping, excited!

As I began my devotion this morning, sitting in my favorite spot felt like I sat down with an old friend.  I began my dialogue with Jesus.  Telling Him how thankful I was for the opportunity to be with precious friends.  Then the sights I saw—and the great conference we attended—added bonus gift from heaven, the snow.  My heart spilled forth my desire to follow His plan—not my own.

I realized what I had prepared in advance of our return, was the benefit of what I experienced when I got home.  I’m not sure I said that clearly. (I leave you to figure out the message in that…no sense in me doing all the work.)

What I mean is—all the effort I put into getting the house ready for our return—is what I enjoyed—and what brought me great pleasure when I walked in the door.  Clean.  Nothing to do but take care of what we brought in the house.

When you put all your effort into God’s plans-and-purpose here—no agenda of your own, just simply taking every opportunity to be a blessing and minister to others, you are preparing  your spiritual home.  Each day as we “give everything to God”, He takes us through the ropes of house cleaning.  Removing the clutter.

100_3387Do you have some clutter?

I know I still do.  I’m opening every door for Him to see—and yet He reveals more. (By the way, He has x-ray vision—can see through doors and tall buildings are nothing to Him)

He shows me what I tucked back and why.  He shines the light in every place—I thought had been long dealt with—yet there was something, some hurt or pain that I allowed to remain.  As long as it remains, there can’t be full healing as there needs to be.  Sometimes it’s painful.  But as necessary as dealing with an abscessed tooth.  If left untreated, it will cause a great deal of damage.

Let’s do some “spring” cleaning.  Heart and home.  Allow Christ access to all the old junk you are holding on to.  I can tell you from experience, it will do nothing but weigh you down, so much so—it may just keep you down when He calls for us to go UP!

Now, without further ado, via random number generator, the winner of the book, “Winning Him Without Words” by my friends, Lynn Donovan and Dineen Miller is: Ang of the blog, “Angela’s Words of …” (please contact me with your mailing address).  I invite you to go over and congratulate her—and read her latest post—I just did—and it is amazing.

I ALSO encourage you that if you know someone who is struggling in a marriage of spiritual mismatch—get them a copy of this book—THEY will be blessed—but so will you.  (Sow a seed of kindness into the life of another.)

Thank You Jesus—for the sweetest gifts of life.  Friends and family.100_3386

Thank You Lord that You care so much about us, that no detail is ever overlooked.  Thank You Lord for the family we have been blessed with from JFA.  Thank You Lord for hearing our prayers and bringing us closer to You.

100_3511Matt—you need to start a blog.  But I know with all the other things you do—church, family—pastoring—music—etc. WHERE in the world would you ever find the time! 🙂

We were blessed BEYOND words at your sensitivity to the Holy Spirit.  Your messages came straight from the throne room of God.  It was like we were sent just at this time, just for those messages.  Jeff and I both agreed, we felt like we’d had a spiritual bath and that God was pouring things into us that was necessary for our next steps.  Amazing services.  You have a GREAT church-filled with friendly and precious people—and Jeff and I laughed as we tried to figure out a way to bring it closer.

Thank you to our regular readers.  For hanging in there when the dust of the fields came flying…and for reading all the way down to the bottom of this lengthy post!  (Let me know if you fell asleep.)  Jeff didn’t get his blog post together—he apologized, but said their were other things to see and do.  I could do the writing for this week.  He’ll write later.

As a side note, what do you like best about blog writing?  Devotionals or life?  Or a combo of both.  Do you blog?  Journal?  Or just think a bunch of random thoughts….that’s where this blog started.  YEARS of random thoughts in the head…all spilled forth into blog form in 2007.

100_0202

I hope you all have a super blessed weekend! 🙂  (We’ll see what God has next……)

Do you see the heart?

Interview with Mary DeMuth, author of “Thin Places”

Mary, I want to thank you for sharing your heart and allowing me to post this interview, via our  e-mail back and forth!  It has been such a blessing in so many ways correspondiMary DeMuthng with you over the past few weeks.  I will have to say, because of something I am praying over now, page 166 and 167 are marked up and dog eared in my book.  Because of what it says to my heart.  The seeking heart of us all.  (And yes, I put the page numbers in because I want our readers to GET the book and read it for themselves!) 🙂

Your book begins with a traumatic childhood experience.  Can you share with us how God uses this trauma in your life to impact others in ministry?

Because He has healed me and continues to heal me of the trauma and He’s given me the ability to share it openly, I often get in discussions with folks about their own secrets. It’s a privilege to see them set free. I also get a lot of correspondence about Thin Places, which enables me to continue a dialog.

As a parent and wife?

I’m more aware of gratitude. Because I had a difficultThin Places upbringing, I don’t take my current family for granted. I’m often astounded that God has given me three amazing children and a dear, dear husband. All these folks, I cherish.

I know one of my daughters tells me I am so “over protective” sometimes with my grandkids–worrying about various things.  Do you find yourself worrying excessively?

No, and I don’t really know why. I figured if I could survive such a mess and God was big and capable of healing me, I didn’t need to worry excessively about things.

Mary, throughout your book, I had a sense that you and your husband share a very open and communicative relationship–was this hard won for you?

No, we started our relationship that way. Of course we are like everyone else, in that life interrupts. Money and stress and schedules make a mess of things. We have to choose to interact.

Do you find it difficult at times to express your feelings?  (I am speaking as a wife that DOES experience the difficulties of communication at times)

No. Why? I think part of how God made me to cope with my upbringing was an ability to share exactly how I felt (later in life). I’m pretty in touch with that, and I’ve had lots of practice as I’ve shared my heart with friends.

As I read the parts in the book of your love of music and singing–I wanted to HEAR you sing!  I imagine that God used your love of music to bring healing to your heart.

So much so. Even today as I was painting our front door, I had music on to listen to. It completely mesmerizes me, reorients me. I love to sing worship songs. For a short time, I led worship when we lived in France.

Mary, I deal with self-esteem issues at times–I know that there are more women who do as well–those who may or may not recognize this–I have friends/acquaintances who react in an abrupt manner at times, maybe not really meaning to, simply because of the way we view ourselves–can you help us understand how we can change our focus–or maybe how we can pray for one another in this area?

Maybe more about prayer. I believe every woman struggles with inferiority and insecurity. Just look at the magazines lining the checkout lines. We never measure up. The best way we can be there for our girlfriends is to offer grace as often as we can. Even harder: Train yourself to offer sweet grace to yourself.

I just want to encourage our readers, get this book.  “Thin Places” is not just about Mary’s life–it’s about looking into the mirror at our own.  –At the places where God has been nearest–but perhaps seemed the most distant.–

Can you leave us today with some parting words of wisdom–something that perhaps the Lord has done in your life since the publishing of your book?

He’s shown me that telling my story was a gift of love to others. In telling it, folks don’t feel so alone. I’m thankful for that. It was painful to write and put out there, but the rewards are that many women are being set free. Freedom is such an important thing!DSC_0002

Thank you Mary, for your time and most of all for   sharing such an amazing  journey with us!  I believe with all my heart, as you continue to be the voice God has called you to be,  that HE  will continue to use the tragedy in your life to bring triumph in another life!

Now, before you go any further, just a little surprise for our readers!  For every comment and link back here, you will be entered into a drawing for a “Fire Bible” purchased from Gospel Publishing House just for this interview!  I would love it if you shared on Facebook as well!   Send friends over to Mary’s web page which you can find by clicking on the picture of her book!
