Alive and Thankful

We just embarked on a brand new Bible Study. One Month to Live Challenge. Okay, I will admit, tonight was rather difficult. I kept thinking of Wanda. But on the other hand, I began to think—if I knew I had one month to live…what would I do? Well, we made a list… Reminded me of a movie we saw just last night. Last Holiday. The main character had been misdiagnosed, but thought she was dying. Thought she only had a month to live. I couldn’t actually do what “Queen Latifah” did in the movie. She quit her job, took all her money and went to an awesome spa and luxury hotel—maximum luxury…. on the other side of the world! She spent all she had to enjoy her last month. To the fullest.

It gave me much to think on. I realized that we are loaded with blessings every single day we draw breath…and I take it for granted.

“Praise the Lord O my soul: and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the Lord O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgiveth all thine iniquities; who healeth all thy diseases; Who redeemeth thy life from destruction; who crowneth thee with lovingkindness and tender mercies; Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”Psalm 103:1-5

A few months ago, I embarked on a journey of “decided thankfulness”. To look at everything with eyes seeking the good.

That is hard to do at times. Maybe even down right impossible in every single situation, especially on Mondays. Tough on Tuesdays too. Wednesdays are a bit better. Sometimes Thursday’s can throw us all the way back to Monday. However, when Friday comes, we get really thankful! That was until “Thankful Thursday” entered the picture.

As I read through the thankful posts of all the participating sisters in Christ, I see all the things in my life with fresh eyes. I see all the benefits I have been blessed with as a child of the King. I see my life that has been forgiven. I see my body that has been healed when I was sick. I see the mercy that has been shown to me time and time again, undeserving as I am. I feel the loving kindness of my Father as He loads me with yet more benefits from His storehouse of good things.

His Word says in Isaiah 40:31, “They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” In the midst of the difficult circumstances of our lives, if we put our trust in Him, wait on Him, trust in Him,— He will strengthen us. He will give us the ability to rise above the situation and look to Him, and not at our own strength or lack thereof. Instead, He will provide the strength we need to face each day—as each need arises.

Oh girlfriends, I have so many things that needs “fixing”. My attitude (not everyday, just the days that end in “y”), my mind (the battle ground for the enemy), my thought processes (another battle field—especially when I get aggravated). I must continually stay on my knees before Him. Only when I have been on my knees am I then able to face the world around me with a smile. Because, He has replaced the burdens in my life, my heart, my mind with His peace!

The Lord can show us how to live “thankfully”, every day of our lives. He can show us how to focus on Him and His infinite love for us, rather than all the “ever changing issues” in our lives.

So, with all that being said….I am thankful for you—-YOU—-the one that took the time to come here today and read this lengthy post! I am thankful for the breath I breathe—for the plan of salvation —- forgiveness of my sins —– for my family —- my friends—-for good books to read —- for budding trees and fresh new seasons —– for cool breezes —– for rain that we need —- for responsibility —– for LWG —- for CWO —– for passion and dreams becoming reality —- for clean laundry —-for peaceful sunsets—-for brilliant colors in the sky—-for pajamas that are loose fitting—-for nightlights—-for scented candles—– for dishwashers—–for irons and ironing boards—–for clothes that don’t require ironing! Many, many more things could be listed…..but you get the picture…..live thankfully! See everything with new eyes. His gift to us!

For more thankful hearts….visit Iris! She corrals us all together on Thursdays to share God’s blessings with you!

What a joyful thankful post to read on this Thankful Thursday. I am so thankful that you chose to share this with us. The scripture, the thoughts on being thankful even when life isn’t going well. It gives us all something to think about and to pray about. We certainly do have MUCH for which to be thankful!

  • eph2810

Oh, Angie – I am so totally with you on that. Yes, we have our bad days, but if we really look around we are more blessed that we can see at first sight. Some morning He needs to adjust my attitude, because I just don’t want to go to work *sigh* – I rather would spend time with Him and writing. But I have to do the things I need to do and can glorify Him in the process.Thank you so much for sharing your honest and grateful heart with us this past week.Blessings to you and yours.
